Appreciating the Support - UPDATE November 20, 2020

Thank You

After a late night of excitement, today is a day of appreciating the support I felt as I saw so many people come through for the bears.

Many thanks to everyone who showed support and to the Bear Center staff and volunteers who worked diligently on the broadcast and behind the scenes.

Today I checked Lily?s den and she is still there as we continue plans for the den cam you donated for last night.

Going home early tonight.

Thank you for all you did and do.

Good morning everyone- 32 here and calm. It was  really nice yesterday. I spent some time outside cutting back a few things in the barn garden.  I have a gold flame spirea in there that i haven't done any pruning on for several years. I cut it back yesterday and will pull out the old dead parts today. hopefully i'll have time between tennis and football.  Tennis semi finals today. Novak plays this morning at 8 and Rafa plays at 2 PM. The morning match is on ESPNNews and ESPN2 will rebroadcast Rafa at 9 PM tonight.  I'll listen to Rafa while watching football.  lol

rues- the story about your Christmas tree brought back funny memories of my dad trying to set the tree without extra support! It was so funny- every year he swore he would get it done right---- and every year he would end up tying it up. There was a door behind where we put the tree so it was tied to the doorknob.

cal- so glad the little bird is okay. Yesterday i was sitting out at the barn garden and wondering where all the nests were?  Usually in the fall we could see where all the babies came from then i remembered the derecho blew most of them down. Only 2 remained that i saw yesterday. The only good thing was that all the babies had fledged.

Iowa plays Penn State this afternoon and the Steelers play Jacksonville tomorrow at noon. Hopefully i can see the Chiefs game on monday morning.
Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies!  Another nice day...I've already been outside raking so I would be done before the game at noon.  BUT... the game has been cancelled!!  FSU decided today they didn't want to play us because of ykw.  Our team and fans are already down in Tallahassee and I bet a whole lot of them are very mad.

cal... I'm so mad about the game, too.  Guess I'll have to find a different one to watch.  I might get to watch the Wildcats AND the Chiefs this week!  Glad you got your package!  Also glad you found your baby bird!!

joho... FIFTY??  Wow!  That's amazing!

lupine... I had to tie one of my Christmas trees to the ceiling one year.  lol

rues... Do you remember the Christmas book I wrote years ago about Lily climbing the Christmas tree to the top?  She was just a baby when I wrote it.  Senior grand has a birthday on Wednesday... 18!!  I'm getting old... :(  She has applied to Clemson, but has always said she was going to a tech school for two years, so she didn't have to pay tuition for the whole 4 years.  Our state lottery pays for them to go to a tech school if they have good grades.

Have a nice Saturday, Jewelies!

Ohio state got a little scare, but pulled it out.
Tasha was out gathering grass again today.  She is a real treat for us this year.  Everyone else is sleeping, but her.  God bless her southern genes I guess.
Eagles, geese, swans, pelicans, great horned owls, barges, boats, locks and dam and peregrines.  Great Spirit Bluff Falcon cam is great.  Thanks to whoever is running that cam.

I am sick of all the isolation.

Tasha out and about
Tasha out and about

Today, with the temperature at 29?F, Tasha ate some snow that was not overly cold and raked up more grass for bedding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdtldHNhILI

Then in "Taughtbybears?" second video, Tasha showed us more of the wild. She found grass that was greener and ate it like Lily has also been doing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvPc6iOq1J4

As I write this, Tasha is testing the ice on the pond, eating more snow near the log in the middle of the pond, and is beginning to drag a big ball of grass from the other side of the pond.

Late news flash! "Taught" caught Tasha going back and dragging most of the ball to her den as shown in this 5-minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIheQGOCssM

For a bit of old news, congratulations to the winners of the Hibernation Contest. Heidi has your prizes that you can claim by e-mailing [email protected]
Holly, from Arkansas, may be showing Minnesota genes by denning on September 17. Many bears from northern Minnesota were released in Arkansas back in the 1960?s when Arkansas bear numbers were very low. Lucky?s date of October 19 looks right for his Wisconsin roots. Tasha denning on November 11 and still being active today looks on schedule for a Kentucky bear.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- nice here this morning. We didn't get any rain yesterday but it was grey looking all day and looked like it could rain. Good ir didn't. Hubby has cut down 2 big dead ash trees just north of the house. We've been mostly out of firewood while he was helping clean out his brothers house. Hubby managed to get trees down without knocking down the power lines or blocking the road. Amazing.  He has them trimmed up and needs to cut and split. We have a power splitter I gave to him for Christmas several years ago.  It was on the black friday sale at menards. The only time he ever shopped that early in the morning. lol

Novak and Rafa both lost yesterday- bummer. But Hawkeyes won. Don't know when tennis final is today- will have to look it up. At one poijt yesterday i had the football game muted on the tv- listening to the tennis match on the computer. Very interesting to follow- multi tasking!!

Have a great day jewelies!
