Good morning everyone-  just a short post; hubby's outpatient surgery turned into an overnight stay. Couldn't get his  blood oxygen level to stabilize. So i may be away from posting for a bit. I have no doubt that this is just a little hiccup on the his journey.

Have a great day jewelies!

Cal, hope your hand and arm are better now. Can't imagine how it felt when Pearl stepped on your hand and then Jim fell on you! It's a wonder there were no bones broken. We definitely need to find you a bubble wrap suit. You are one tough cookie! I was watching the news earlier when they were talking about the 2 storms. Looks like both will be heading into the Gulf. Then poor California has those devastating fires. So sad. We already have enough to worry about with ykw.

Lupe, I'm so glad your hubby came home! Hope everything is ok now.

Ra, that must be one big apartment your grand will be living in! Are your schools going in person or virtual? So far our schools will be in person starting Sept 8 unless things change for the worse. Crow finally got a hold of someone at our cable company who agreed with him that we deserved some credit for all the trouble we had. So for one year we get all our service for $190.

Have a nice evening! Stay safe! :)

Hi rues... Our schools open on Monday... in person.  My daughter is a wreck... Instead of having the kids come to her library, she has to load up a cart and go into every classroom... so, she'll be exposed to every single student and teacher.  Doesn't sound like a good plan to me.  I don't expect the school in person to last long before the whole school has been exposed.

Hi cal... Are you able to use your arm and hand ok?  rues is right... you're one tough cookie! Looks like both of those storms might be headed for New Orleans.  Those poor people there!!

Colleen, Cubs, and Birds - UPDATE August 22, 2020

Phoebe Lunch

Colleen showed her bright eyes and distinctly notched right ear today as her cubs peeked over a log.

The phoebes revealed that they have at least 2 big babies and that both parents are still finding food for them. Both fledglings looked eager as a parent arrived with a damselfly. The closest one got it.

Good morning everyone- 70 here and a bit more humid than in recent days. Sound like we're in for a stretch of 90's for 5 days. We'll have to turn on the ac for sure.

ra- our schools start tomorrow as well. In person and mandatory masks. I'm in agreement with you. I think it will be just a matter of time until everyone is exposed.  In the back of my mind i'm thinking "Well- good- just get it over with."  But in the forefront I'm thinking  "Geez- we can't and shouldn't take that chance." So hard but i know of several kids who are seniors this year who really want to get back to school.

Izzy going crazy this morning with her old ratty catnip mouse. We bought her a new one but she prefers the used one. No accounting for taste. lol

Hubby napped yesterday afternoon and went to bed early last night. He is still in bed. He said he got no rest in the hospital overnight.

I got to watch live tennis yesterday and it will be on all this week. The Western and Southern (which is the name of the insurance company that sponsors the tournament) is usually held in Cincinnati is being held in New York City. It's being held at the venue where the U.S.Open is held starting Aug. 31st.  Don't know why but i'm sure ykw and  player safety is involved. No spectators or lines people- just one official and ball persons and the players.  It felt odd but i was so glad to see live tennis.

cal- Rafa probably won't be at any tournaments- too risky for him and several of the other top players.

Have a great day jewelies!

Cal, Sassy is a cutie! What a good deal cousin Janice got! Hope she and Sassy have a long life together! Nice pics of Colleen and her cubs and the phoebes! I was looking out the window the other day and I couldn't believe my eyes...there was a ground hog scurrying around my yard! He then ran across the street and under a neighbor's fence! Then a neighbor up the street said she had to start locking her cat door because a raccoon came inside one night! Reminds me of the commercial with the raccoonie door! Lol!

Ra, I don't blame your daughter for being a wreck! Doesn't sound like a good plan to me. I wonder how long it will take for the local schools here to close after they open. Who would have ever thought we would be in this mess. >:(

Lupe, I didn't sleep well when I was in the hospital. Hope I never have to go back there. We are supposed to have a couple days back in the 90's this week. I'm ready for fall.

Have a nice evening! Stay safe! :)

Cubs and More Cubs - UPDATE August 23, 2020

Introducing cub on right
Introducing cub on right

Ohio and her two hungry cubs came by and stopped and nursed by the favorite nursing tree?a big white pine. As they were finishing, a cub of Colleen joined them and actually touched noses with both cubs and the mother without experiencing any aggression. There are stories from elsewhere of cubs joining the wrong mother for days at a time, but that can?t be common. However, it has been Ohio and 2 male cubs
Ohio and 2 male cubs
a common adoption practice across North America to have strange cubs adopted into families. When Dr. Gary Alt did that with cubs that had been out of the den for awhile he masked their odors to get by the initial moments of adoption.

Then we got a call. RC and her four cubs were in the neighborhood. We wanted to see how these cubs that had always been reported as small were doing. We saw that they are doing fine. All four are a good size now and RC (stands for right check to remind us of the check on the right side of her chest that identifies her) looks like she is producing a lot of milk. At 21, she is still in the prime years for reproduction, and she emphasized that by producing four good surviving cubs.

The good group of veteran course participants experienced many bear moments today. For the four of them, this was their 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th bear courses. A fun and memorable day.

hi jewelies it is 71 here 71 in the barn and i think only 5 raccoonies. Good to hear and see rc has lots of milk for her cubs ohio too and i would be surprised if a hungry lost cub couldnt join another mom and cubs till his mom found him. i hope they dont lot that much and i sure as heck hope that bear murdering season does not leave orphans i just dont understand why they have it at all but sept and whole month and into oct stupid cruel.

hi lupe! i am  happy rafa not playing i hope none of them get ykw.

Good morning everyone- 68 here with a high of 95 predicted. Ouch! Plus we may see smoke in the atmosphere from the California fires. What a mess they have there. And the Gulf Coast with 2 major storms just days apart. Mother Nature on a warpath for sure this year of 2020.

Must tell you about Izzy- Saturday afternoon she was on the windowsill when all of a sudden she stood up and crouched down like she was hiding from something outside. I figured with her reaction it must be something wild and vicious. Whatever it was it went around the corner of the house. Though she looked at that window she didn't make a move to follow the intruder.  I got up to see and spied the cause of Izzy's alarm-- 2 bunnies!! Geesh!  lol
She is such a joy in our lives.  I'm so glad we decided on her.

Much to do today- hubby is on pain meds for awhile so all chores, errands must be done by me. And i want to get stuff done before it gets so hot.
cal- i believe the tennis players are all in a bubble quarantine type environment. US Open starts next week so this will be a good test of conditions.  I sure would feel better if you would get your own prescription of antibiotics and finish them.
rues- i am ready for fall too!!!

Have a greatday jewelies!

Cal They are called Hydro Seal by Band- Aid.  Google it.  Call around and get some.  You will be healed quickly safely and will really be impressed.  They are great.  I kid you not. Hi ev1.  I am doing OK.  Go to dentist today.  Got three problems for him to work on instead of the usual clean and go.  See you in a few months according to my insurance.  Our homeless shelter said in the paper they needed socks.  So I took 3 bags of nice slippers and socks to them from Joan.  They were very pleased.  So was I to think we are helping the ones who really need help with things no longer being used.  Went for my preop covid test and was rejected.  Turns out I am more ready to get going than they are.  They said I was one week early. I looked at my note.  It plainly said August 30th.  I am a little disoriented these days.  But it is getting better. LOL
Instead of getting tested I went to the next town where I stopped when I heard music coming from the town square into my open car window.  I sat for an hour or more listening to gospel songs from the central band stand.  It was great.  Just a beautiful safe Sunday morning.  My own park bench.  Lots of space.  Everyone in park had a mask.  Even little kids.
It is not these people who are spreading the virus it is the party crowds.  My county went from orange to red yesterday due to family gatherings and slacking off of distancing.  Too bad I hope I can make it through the three surgeries I have been putting off for too long.  Years now for some. Well got to get going for now.  God Bless you and yours.
