Trumpeter Swans
Trumpeter swans
For date night last evening, Donna and I visited a place where the Trumpeter Swans, Canada Geese, and flocks of ducks from far around fly in for the night. It?s a bend in a river obscured from the road by trees, but the din of trumpeting swans and honking geese was loud?plus the sounds of water splashing from what I believe was bathing waterfowl. Donna made it exciting. While I was fussing with camera settings, she was spotting beavers here, mink there, and pair after pair of trumpeter swans (sometimes singles or triples) flying in. We were a little late for good light for pictures but got some for memory?s sake. We were late enough for the night shift to come on, and she saw two beavers emerge and swim away from their lodge. Between swan arrivals, a mink was foraging from a rock in the stream. It would dive in, come up and return to the rock, and dive in again. We couldn?t tell for sure what it was getting. Then, as we were looking the wrong direction holding the long lens, a pickup drove by, stopped and backed up fast to tell us a beaver was on the other side of the road up on the ice. Nice! It?s just how some people are around here. I clicked and saw that it was eating vegetation. Those are the first beavers I saw this year because the lakes are still frozen over. I?d never seen a mink foraging for food like it was?or a beaver eating vegetation sitting on ice?or heard the din of so many trumpeters. Seeing the swans flying over, I was amazed at the size of their feet?as they should be for bodies that weigh over 20 pounds.

Today, I saw something else for the first time?a male pileated woodpecker feeding his mate a piece of suet. This beautiful day started with a Dark-eyed Junco posing where he could call attention to the blue sky and bright sun shining on the fresh snow.

Good morning everyone- 42 here and a slight chance of rain today. Cats were waiting for me on the porch. Must have been hungry as it was early for them at 5:20 AM. I hope the rain holds off as I have bunches of projects planned for outside. Need to pot up starts from flowers that need thinning. Also need to put compost in my big containers. The containers that I had for the bird feeder may be on its last legs. It is one of a pair of old metal wash tubs that a  friend gave me. They were her Mother's and she thought they fit in well with my garden d?cor. Early iron and recycled  stuff. Is that a thing? Rues???

cal- isn't it fun having our spouses home? That was the biggest adjustment in retirement for me. lol

rues- had to look up liriope- I had seen it before but didn't know the name. Very pretty. And water lilies. I like them too.  TY for the Bill Withers info. I didn't know he was from WV. When I listened to Lean On Me an interview site popped up. I listened to that too. What a neat guy. Always liked his music!!

johoward- I looked up that cemetery and found older photos of Daffodil Hill- made my heart sing. TY

ra- plant nurseries not an essential business- I beg to differ. lol We need to go to the grocery also- sil needs stuff and I do too. I may just go in early. I think you should take a leash and get that little bull. I'm taking it that he wasn't aggressive. I'm all for shipping it to cal- she can use it to mow her grass. lol

The update was so great- and the photos. Dr. Rogers rocks!!!

Have a great day jewelies!

Oh NO!  A tiger caught it from a zookeeper.  So did several others.  If they can catch it maybe they can spread it.  So pets may become carriers.  How awful.  Sure hope this is wrong.

God Help Us All.

Joan is suffering in new ways.  She has a buzzing inside her head.  It is getting more and more irritating to her.  The pain is coming back in her hands and legs and back.  She is very uncomfortable and edgy all the time.  We don't know where to turn.
I am afraid of what may be coming next.  The isolation is not helping.  This morning she said she feels like she is in jail.  She is sleeping on the couch now, but groaning.  She asked for coffee twenty minutes ago but went right back to sleep.  I will go make it now, and reheat it later if needed.

Well- I think I've posted photos of 2 flowers blooming right now. Not sure of names- one may be an anemone. Also posted photo of well drilling crew. In all the pictures I took I never got the top of the rig. It was really tall. lol

Hi Jewelies!  Hot here... already in the 80's!  I was cutting back a tree, and decided it was too hot to work out there!  My daughter and I were talking today and she mentioned that a lot of the people who are dying from ykw are dying of pneumonia.  I wonder if that means since I've had the pneumonia shot, if I get it, it won't be life threatening...  Any thoughts?

lupine... lol...  Pretty daffodils though...

Joho... I've had that buzzing in the ears before.  I took a benadryl and that took care of it for me.  Worth a try? Might be from spring allergies... Hope Joan feels better soon.

cal... I'm with Pearl... Not even going to try to catch that bull!  He's very shy and I don't see how I'd ever get close enough with leash like lupine said.  lol  I'd need a very long lasso!  lol  I get my canned cat food on ebay... have you tried there?

rues... I'm still looking at Wilson's beautiful St. Patrick's Day pic!  What a pretty boy!

Have a good day, Jewelies!  Find something cool to do today!  Read, garden, clean, mow, crafts, cook, play games, puzzles, chat with friends, watch for baby eagles, watch tv?  I can always think of something to do, can you tell?    :D
