Good morning everyone- I was so looking forward to seeing the repeat of Ted getting fed yesterday. Thanks johoward for the heads up!

When I started watching Ted I was aware he knew something was up. He was way more alert than I've seen him lately. Went to the far end of his enclosure which he could do without walking in snow. So very funny to see this big hulking "wild" critter avoiding walking in snow. He is so smart. When the person came in his enclosure with the sunflower seeds he tried to directly follow him to his chalet but there was snow in the way so the person came back with the bowl and got Ted to go back around the tree. No snow that way. Whoever that person was- I love them!  It took a long time for Ted to eat those seeds just like Sharon said. Maybe there will be a link later so you all can watch. I'm wondering if Ted's instinct to not walk on snow is more about slipping and sliding injury than getting  his feet wet. Hmmm?

today is going to be another fairly nice day. Sure felt good to have the sun on my face yesterday. I walked early in the morning- got my 30 minutes in. Had 5 things on my list and got them all checked off. I was tired last night.

We've had neighbors bring goodies in the last coupleof days. My sil brought muffins and then another young lady brought cupcakes yesterday. She owns a bake shop- antique- repurpose- recycle store. She brought a peanut butter cupcake and a red velvet cupcake- Yum!!  We did steaks in the woodstove and had a salad. Hubby said this was probably the last time to cook in the woodstove this spring. He needs to get a pretty good fire going in there and the house was quite warm. We had to open up the windows!!!l lol Steak, salad and a cupcake- quite a gourmet meal for us.

On my list today is to write thank you notes and maybe a letter. We'll see- I have to get them done before noon when the mail is delivered.
Have a great day jewelies!

Cal, Crow and I went to Sam's Club this morning at 7:30. They open early now for seniors from 7 to 9 every Tuesday and Thursday. We got everything we went after...toilet paper, hamburger, steak, spiral ham, chips, perogies and orange juice. There were several people wearing masks and gloves. Crow found an old box of surgical gloves in the basement closet so he wore a pair of them in the store. I wore my winter gloves! We got gas at Sam's, too. It was $1.69. I noticed that the gas attendant cleaned the pumps each time a customer left. Same inside the store, too. As you left the self check lane a lady came behind you and cleaned. I told her thank you for doing that.   I mowed our yard yesterday and Robin's this afternoon. Crow tried to mow but his legs and hips said not today! He is so out of shape. He started riding my exercise bike Sunday so he hopes that will strengthen his legs. I had a heck of a time mowing over all those mole trails! Thank goodness our new mower is self propelled! Has Jim ever filed for unemployment before? Bet that felt weird for him! Crow did way back in 1970's shortly after we were married! He only got $43 a week! Good thing I was working at the phone company!

Have a nice evening Jewelies! Stay safe!

Daily Updates
Holly, Lucky, Trumpeters, and a Tug of War - UPDATE March 31, 2020
31 March 2020
 Print Email
After being separated for months, Lucky and Holly buddied up the last couple days. Trumpeter Swans
Trumpeter Swans
One picture here might even show tongue-licking. I was surprised they didn?t den together after their history of sharing dens where they even played together.

On Sunday, Donna and I took a drive to see Trumpeter Swans that have been arriving as stretches of rivers opened up. We saw about a dozen, some flying over with their six to eight foot wingspans (record 10 feet 2 inches for the largest male trumpeter ever reported). We took some pictures but nothing like the picture here that a friend showed us and let us use for this update of a pair taking off running toward her on the water.

Yesterday, the herring gull named 6 O?clock and his mate had a determined tug of war over a dead woodland deer mouse. 6 O?clock spotted it and carried it up beside his mate to swallow it. However, he no more than landed when his mate took hold of the mouse?s head and wouldn?t let go. Both dug in their heels and leaned back pulling hard. They kept it up so long that I had time to grab a camera, aim, and click through the window. Then the mouse slipped out of 6 O?clock?s bill and his smaller mate swallowed it. 6 O?clock held no grudge. He stood close and calmly walked around her until they flew off together. I?d never seen a tug of war like that before.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- 34 here on the first day of a new month. I'm usually one to pull a few April Fools jokes but today it feels like -wow- another month of social distancing- it is no joke!  I am determined to make the most of this time- I did have a friend and her hubby come out to get some iris and naked lady bulbs that I had thinned out. We stayed pretty far apart and they didn't stay long. I worry about her because she gets respiratory stuff sometimes. We had been communicating via e-mail and phone.

I must confess- I didn't get my list done yesterday. I have a habit of doing fun stuff first. so today I will add to that list. One of the things on my list yesterday was to clean the leaves out of the window wells. We have 4 of them. Unfortunately it was a bit windy and as I pulled out the leaves with my short little rake t he wind blew them back in. It took longer than anticipated but it was done. I'll have to check today to see how many blew back in. lol

cal- isn't it funny to think those swans have to run on the water before they take off? What strength that would take.

rues- glad you guys got your groceries- had to smile at the perogies. That isn't on many people's list. lol  I've been going out and stomping down the mole runs every day- they are really annoying but since my gum remedy turned out to be worse than the moles i'm just going to let them be. dividing and replanting columbines today. Supposed to rain on Friday so they will be watered.

Have a great day jewelies!

hi lupe i had to google perogies yesterday still not sure saw a picture all kinds rues what kind did you get? so lupe i went back to the barn i always check pearls water tank hope no more birds in there i have a tarp over most of with a rug over that tank heater in there and floating like dish but i heard something a little baby bird omg got it out would of drowned scared me bad. parents upset i put it a wash cloth i have out there dried it off told it your okay sat it on top of hay backed clean away parents came it finally flew up on top duct with parents i thought it was flying good. so now i been trying to find something to fix that and i found some man has a wooden deal with heavy plastic mesh inside of wooden frame side rails has expanded polystyrene. he has it in his horse cattle water tank lays in there and birds can land on it will not sink but horse cow can push it down get a drink fits just snug of it enough it will sink down. he found a barn owl drowned did not want that again showed how to make it i need to find the stuff. wonder if lowes open well menards is by jims dad. i pushed pearls tarp down almost to water tied it there so if landed in the water should be able to get to the tarp and rug on top..rug has traction. i know those big swans moving on for take off hope that duck ducked. no wimbledon my alert news just flashed that cause of ykw

Hi Jewelies!  Chilly, but sunny here today.  Good day to get outside work done... I mowed the whole yard for the first time this season.  Had to shovel "bull pies" out of my lawn... that darn bull must have been here!  Also a dog to clean up after, too.  Hmph.  I was going to sit in the sun for awhile this afternoon, but it was just too chilly when the sun went behind a cloud.  Maybe later this week... calling for nice weather.

Something cool came to my attention yesterday... Our county animal shelter is empty!!  All the animals have been adopted or fostered!  Good news out of this ykw!

cal... So glad you were able to save that little bird!  I hope your new fix works in the trough.  Nice of that guy to post the instructions for you!  How's Missy today... have you heard?  I thought of you instantly when I saw the gull pic this am...  I went to Walmart Monday morning... got there at 7am when they opened.  Not very many people there and I found almost everything I needed.  Someone gave me a box of vinyl gloves years ago, I wore them.  I sure never thought I'd use those gloves for something like shopping!  I usually wear them when I paint or something like that.

rues... I use a push mower, too, but mine isn't self propelled.  I have a ditch to do and didn't want it pulling me along there!  My mom had one and I tried once, but told her I felt like I was going to run into her fence all the time.

lupine... I hope you didn't have to redo your window wells!  I found a naked lady in the middle of my back yard today!!  lol  Couldn't say that to too many people and have them understand what I was talking about, could I?  lol

Hi Joho, JP, obsver, Nora, and others!
