Hi Jewelies! Yesterday our governor cancelled all the state high school boys and girls basketball championship games. Then today he cancelled all public and private schools until further notice. So far we have no confirmed cases of the virus in the state. I hope it will stay that way but it probably won't. We went to Walmart this morning at 9am. Total mayhem! The grocery side of the store was packed with people. I have never seen anything like it. Good thing we didn't need toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, Lysol or canned goods because there was NONE! There were a lot other empty shelves that I have no idea what item use to be there! I heard it was just as bad at Sam's Club! One good thing at Sam's was that their gas was down to $1.90 a gallon.

The last 2 days have really been nice. Today was a little cooler but still plenty of sunshine. We decided to cut down the holly tree today before the cardinals build their nest. As we started cutting I decided instead of cutting it down, let's limb it up. So that's what we did. It looks like an umbrella now. We can now walk by it to go into the garage without getting poked in the arm! And there is still plenty of tree left for the cardinals.

Cal, I saw an ad for Blacklist last night. It said it was coming back this month but didn't say when!

Lupe, our senior citizens rec center closed today indefinitely. Our community building has cancelled all parties and get togethers and our city building will have only one ofc open to the public to pay water bills, get building permits, etc. Pretty scary.

Have a nice evening and stay healthy Jewelies.

Good morning everyone- I  slept in again. So 10 hours of sleep last night after a 2 hour nap yesterday after lunch. I feel great so I must have needed the rest. Both cats were waiting for me patiently. Fed them right away. It's supposed to be snowing here but the air is too dry. Maybe later.
cal- our schools are on spring break next week- colleges too. I think they are waiting to see what happens after that. Meanwhile people's plans are getting changed- one woman in my spin class had a conference this weekend cancelled- one cancelled a trip to Cancun-  worried about getting back.

rues- so glad your state has no coronavirus; the panic buying is amazing. Last week when I went to Theisens for cat food they had a huge display where you walk in of  paper towels and toilet paper. These were both on my list and it was a good price so I got one of each. Normally I wouldn't go there for those items. So i'm pretty sure I started the panic buying! lol

BTW- I was in our town grocery yesterday and they had a good supply of everything.

Well- I guess I should get the day started. I do feel well rested.
Have a great day jewelies!

Cal, last night they said Blacklist will be on Friday with 2 episodes! Yay, it's about time!  They (who ever they are) are saying the reason WV has no reported virus  is because very few have been tested! It's all around us in neighboring states so it's just a matter of time. Well, our nice weather left early this morning. Today it barely reached 40 then it started sleeting! All day long it has been a mixture of rain, sleet and snow flurries! Weather girl says a warm up is coming tomorrow! I meant to bake a pie today since today is Pi Day but I never got around to it! Lol! I was busy swapping out the living room winter valances and  sofa slip cover. Of course I had to throw the winter things in the washer and dryer. Then I changed the bathroom shower curtain and area rug to summer ones! Still have to do the kitchen. Maybe tomorrow.

Lupe, I envy you!  I wish I could sleep that long! I know I need a good rest but I wake up several times a night. Or I can't get to sleep at night.  I just toss and turn for a couple hours!  Robin and Tasha have a trip planned to go to Hawaii in May. The airlines have already notified them that there may be changes. The way the experts are talking this virus will be around for a long time. I hope they are wrong.

Have a good evening!

Daily Updates
Gordon, Stripe, A Day with Donna, and more - UPDATE March 14, 2020
14 March 2020
 Print Email
Yesterday was a day birding with excellent bird spotter Blue Jay
Blue Jay
Donna at the Sax Zim Bog near Duluth. We saw several Rough-legged Hawks and some other birds but no owls, which we most wanted to see. At the welcome center there, we saw super videos of owls in action and close-up, which would be perfect for the Ecology Hall. I talked to Sparky Stensaas, who runs it and took the videos, and we are going to mutually promote the Bog and the Bear Center. As part of that, we?ll have the super owl video on a fairly large screen in the Ecology Hall.

Coming up in July are the Black Bear Field Study Courses, and the first 3 courses have only 6 in each. That means there are openings for 2 or 3 in each course July 5-8, July 12-15, and July 19-22. E-mail Judy Thon at [email protected] for more information.Mink Stripe
Mink Stripe

Judy e-mailed me that these bears are expected to have cubs: RC, Colleen, Bow, Jewel, Vanna, Vonnie, Mikah, Sadie, Ember, Pixie. Looking forward to having ID books set up and also adding them to Shadow?s Clan sheet with the help of class participants.

Out the window here, Stripe has been the mink of the day for each of the last two days.

And just so everyone knows we don?t hang out with just anybody here, our own Gordon Buchanan was awarded the title of MBE (Member of the British Empire) and had it pinned on this new suit by no less than Prince Charles.Gordon Buchanan's family

I?ve never seen him so dressed up as in this picture of him with his (Left to right) daughter Lola, wife Wendy, and son Harris. He is the only MBE I know, and it was partly for his work with the bears here.

A blue jay perched in the sun and I couldn?t help but click the button. The camera is always right next to me at my desk.

Thank you for all you do.

hi rues! oh thank you on blacklist info!! yay two of them too! as soon as i see it will record the series! i went to walmart yesterday morning and it was raining then turned to sleet back to cold rain. that man set all that huge brush on fire friday night jim was watching it i felt sick bunch of big trees and stuff been there for almost a year so i know rabbits and stuff must of made a home there like he ever uses that part of his 20 acres. never. when i left still lots of red hot burning embers and he was in his truck in his driveway and just left. i was hoping the sleet and rain would take care of it. still lots left so i imagine fire bug will relight it. you worked hard yesterday i got a mop at walmart and i mopped the floor and let trigger sweep the living room even let boo boo back in and he was what is that i said boy get up on that couch and do not worry about it and he got up there. i would not want to travel anywhere right now robin and tasha may have to wait. i saw the huge lines at chicago airport people coming back from england and stuff all griping about the lines and having to be checked for a fever what did they except. only if people who have it stay in will that help and lots of people will not do that or think they are just regular sick or not have any signs but have it maybe. i saw on the news too nba players got tested 3 had it they had enough test for them but not regular people tom hank and rita got the test too.

hi lupe! its cold and little rainy here. how about there?

hi ra where are you? griz barking non stop gotta go

Good morning everyone- 28 here and no wind. Yesterday brought snow- yay! Of course by day's end it was all gone. But I had indoor projects ready to do. We have a walk in closet in the kitchen where we keep coats, gloves, boots and recycling stuff. I started out by getting the cat food out to restock the metal can I keep it in. Needed to scrub the metal can- get the recycling out to bertha- put away some gloves, scarves and hats. Clean shelves- so much stuff- I didn't remember the last time I mopped the floor in there. Well- if i'm going to do the floor in the closet I need to do the kitchen floor too. Oh and then I should do the bathroom floor- but I need to clean the sink, shower, toilet before I scrub the floor. So that took all morning.

rues- I thought for just a minute about getting out shorts and summer stuff but then decided I did enough for one day. I, too, have sleepless nights or wake up and can't get back to sleep. That used to make me really mad but now I just get up- read, play games, listen to pod casts. I figure when my body needs sleep i'll fall asleep.
One question- should I have different shower curtains for winter and summer?? funnily enough- just 2 weeks ago I bought a new shower curtain but haven't put it up yet. Then yesterday when I was cleaning the kitchen closet I found another one I apparently bought in the past and forgot about. lol

time for breakfast-- have a great day jewelies!

Hi ev1,
Joan snoozing in her chair.  She feels pretty good these days. YAY!  Walks much bettrer, and has been cleaning etc.  She is happy she can do things again.  Me too.
Very nice day here after a little snow in the night.  Not excited to go out though.  Too much virus around.  First one in our Lorain County reported this morning.  We are isolating best we can.  Really boring though after being cooped up all Winter, and unable to get around.  We have asked her four doctors to continue her meds, but delay all tests and visits for three months.  I hope they do this.  I think they will because she is doing very well right now.
Nice to see our big boy Ted waking up a little.  Also great to see all the eagles on eggs again.
Well getting hungry here.  Guess I will go make a nice ham and swiss on wheat with some sardines and fruit cocktail on the side.  I think I will wash it down with some nice cold milk.
God bless all those in need and ease the pain of those sufferring.

Hi Jewelies!  Here I am, cal!   :)  Still rainy here, most days.  Forecast is for a chance of rain for the next 7 days, too.  I've been working out in the yard as much as I can... 32 bags of mulch down and two more car loads of rocks.  I had to have a plumber out Friday... every time I flushed my toilet, it went "glug, glug".  Plunging seemed to make it worse, so I broke down and called the only one I could find in town.  I wasn't impressed.  Took three of them to look at it and decide that I needed the expensive treatment that entailed bringing a big machine in the house that would "probably mess up my carpet pretty bad".  I think they saw it was just me here and decided to take me for a fool.  I told them no thanks, paid them for their visit and was done with them.

Joho... Great news that Joan is feeling so much better!  I know you must be relieved.

lupine... I think you're supposed to have shower curtains for winter, spring, summer, fall, and Christmas.  Right, rues?  lol  I bet you're enjoying your new well water now!

rues... My daughter sent me some pictures from our local grocery store yesterday while she was there.  Shelves for toilet paper and paper towels and the hamburger were all completely empty!!  What is with people??  Do they think the stores won't get restocked for a month?  Glad I went earlier in the week, before all the chaos!  Do you think Robin's trip will be delayed?

cal... Our schools give all the students a Chromebook at the beginning of every year and told them to make sure they took them all home this weekend.  So far, they haven't closed the schools, but I can see it coming.  Clemson has spring break this week and have extended it for another week.  I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they will have all the classes online for the rest of the semester.  What a shame that they are ending all the spring sports seasons completely.   This was the first year for girls softball at Clemson and now their season is done.  Baseball, too, and no basketball playoffs.  Youngest grand's prom was supposed to be this month and they have postponed it.  Glad they didn't cancel it altogether... you know most of the girls have already paid lots of money for their dresses.  What a mess this virus has caused!  I want a pet mink!  Their pics are so, so cute!!  I noticed Prince Charles' shoes, too!  Spurs??  Did you notice that the men seem to all have their hands fisted?  Is that a royal thing, too?

Spring has hit here hard already... the pollen is awful!!  My eyes are suffering and I can't quit sneezing!!

Hi to Nora, JP, obsver and others!

i see dr rogers wrote this at the bottom so i copied it off

It is always good to see sweet Ted?especially now as we approach spring and he becomes more active. Ted

The red squirrels there appreciate that we?re leaving the roof of the barn open and keep the feeders filled. Deer Fork Horn

Watching Ted and the pond cam helps protect all of us against corona virus unless we are watching in groups.

I feel blessed to be able to spend so much time in a community that is a haven for nature?where neighbors call one another with news of sightings. Today at the WRI I got a call from a resident who had 51 deer in his yard, including the fork horn young buck that has kept his antlers longer than any other deer in the area. Today, a little after 5:30 PM, he dropped one, and I had to make a quick jaunt to snap proof. I believe it is the same buck that was in an update for still having his antlers a month ago (February 15). In that yard, the first antler to drop was from a 10-point buck on December 8.

Red squirrel   Red Squirrel in feeder   Red Squirrel in feeder

Not to be outdone by 51 deer (I only see 7-10 at a time), I bragged about having 18 red squirrels on the second floor deck at the same time.

Sometimes, I hate to leave my desk. While I was snapping the picture of the deer, I missed a visit by a mink. Hard to know what to do sometimes. Looking forward to spring.

Thank you for all you do.
