Cal, nope, not on here either. It's pledge drive again. May be that it is playing in England. I'm anxious for it to come back.  Last night Robin and I went to the Actors Guild to see Jane Austin's Sense and Sensibility. She is my fav author and I was excited to see the play. I've read her books several times and seen all the movies. As the play began I realized they were not sticking to the original story! They turned it into a comedy! I was appalled! Well, it was so funny that I got over it and really enjoyed it! I don't know if Jane would have thought so, though! Beautiful day here! Sunny and 65! I have daffodils and crocus blooming now! We took the Subaru thru the car wash this afternoon. It's her first car wash of the new year! Then I cleaned her inside and washed her windows. I hope there are no streaks but no matter how hard I try, there always are! Love the pics of Ted. He is the sweetest bear.

Lupe, so glad that Duke is visiting again! I know how much fun it is to have a visitor like him. We always looked forward to Wilson coming and staying with us. He was so much fun.(and he still is) We are lucky because now he never leaves!

Jo, it was really cold here on Friday, too! Hope you are having this warm up now like we are!

Have a nice evening! :)

Daily Updates
Ted, Spot, Deer, and Sharing - UPDATE March 8, 2020
08 March 2020
 Print Email
With the temperature up in the 50?s F and making the snow softer, Ted came out again, but I couldn?t tell what he was doing. He was licking the snow and not biting it?maybe licking up snow fleas that get up on top of the snow this time of year. It?s typically the first bear food available?tiny as they are.Mink Spot
Mink Spot
But they clump up to mate, making a good bite sometimes. Or maybe the melting snow was wet enough to lick up water. Then he raked leaves a bit, maybe again checking for snow fleas but not sniffing enough to be sure of that?maybe just checking to see if there were enough to rake into his bed. But then, he didn?t even rake in the straw the was outside his entry, so he wasn?t really into raking.

If they were snow fleas, I suspect the smell brought him out. Bears are good at finding patches of fallen leaves that have snow fleas on the bottoms of them, which stimulates raking like he was doing. If I?d been on the spot, I could have seen them. Sometimes you just have to read their minds?which you can tell I?m not good at. Taught caught this video of him about 4 ? minutes long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6HabIbEhLY

Pileated and Hairy Females
Pileated and Hairy Females
Then there was Spot that we?re calling her now. I kind of liked Iota, too, which is Greek for the ninth letter of the alphabet. One of you noticed that her spot looks kind of like a little i, but Spot fits with Stripe and Streak and people kind of gravitated to that one, so I went along. It was nice to see the thought behind the names you sent. Why couldn?t I think of Spot myself? That?s why I have to ask for ideas?for names, for Bear Center ideas, I guess for everything.

Spot came a couple times today, including just now at 8:50 PM. Her mid-afternoon visit was in good light for a lucky click of her looking cute. She then disappeared into a hole that leads under the living room bay window where woodchucks used to go.

Lame Buck
Lame Buck
From what I?ve seen, minks like mice best, then bologna, fish a distant third, and I don?t think that she has ever taken a little gob of ground beef, which was a surprise. I thought she?d like that, and maybe she would if I got the very lean grade. The reason I think she doesn?t like fat is that she has never touched the suet. One of these days, I?ll try chicken.

With the snow melting today, it uncovered a layer of sunflower seed hearts in the snow that the red squirrels have been burrowing to get.

With the temperature as high as 54?F, the suet was soft enough to make it extra popular. The female pileated woodpecker shared it with a female hairy woodpecker.

Late afternoon, a buck deer came that I?ve seen often, but this time he was limping. He stood around a lot instead of going off to browse, so I made sure he wasn?t hungry. The deep snow would make it doubly hard for him to go from bush to bush. I hope he gets better. He?s pretty safe here. We seldom see wolves in the yard.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- I awoke at 2:30 to thunder!! Has been raining ever since but at least the wind has died down. I don't know if it will be too muddy for the well guys to work but we are ready if they do come.

duke went home yesterday- his mom asked if he peed or pooped in the house and I said no. She said he didn't even use the pee pad. I said no. She was a bit dejected but I told her I took him out real often. And I stayed out with him too. She said -not even in the bed- no not there either. 8 solid hours - no problem. I feel really bad for duke and his mom. He is such a gem. On Saturday when we were all outside duke stayed close to the back porch. I was by the summer house getting the sandy stuff off my plants when hubby took the tractor close to the porch to plow some sand off the grass. I looked up and duke was right by my side. I'll protect you duke! Smart dog.

Time for breakfast- not a glimmer of light in the east sky yet. Bummer.

Have a great day jewelies!

hi lupe i went to the big walmart pouring rain all the time still raining i went to look for my little frog open the door looking all around shut the door looked down there he was back in had fuzz junk on his back legs i got that off put him back on the door step and put a plastic bowl over him went to the barn picked up worms on my sidewalk put them in the tall grass they get stuck on that cement and sun dries them too death cant have that. i was being real quiet my area to the fence to feed my cow is a lake with mud underneath shhhh. the man i use to clean for his daughter who was not real dog friendly he was he loved his dogs said if he died she would put them down well emily had some accidents in the house and she called me told me she was going to put her down cause of that did i want her be right over. she was old and had some accidents one day that daughter may have accidents of her own. so i hope dukes mom would not do that and would call you to see if you wanted him and i know you would. maybe duke not happy with her lately any other pets or kids that could be doing it? if your place is muddy like here good luck back hoe man. i heard president saying he is for not changing daylight time i sure do wish they would leave it alone on the fall back an hour and leave it. i drove in rain and darkness this morning. i like it getting light earlier and dark earlier causes i am up and i go to bed early. so does my dogs and pearl and sweets.

SOAR - Saving Our Avian Resources

The video of D32 leaving the 20x60? soft-release pen is quick! The three bald eagles had completed their rehabilitation and were more than ready to go when the area ponds thawed and the weather turned more moderate. Being READY to go meant they didn?t dawdle on their release. They left without hesitation.

The soft-release happened on 3 March 2020 for the adult (Logsdon Park) and the two hatch-year 2019 (D32 and Rowley) bald eagles.

Good morning everyone- it's 32 here and feels cold. The guys didn't come yesterday. They called at 7:30- too wet. It rained all day so it was very soggy. He said they can probably do the work Tuesday but it will probably be messier because of the mud. Too bad they couldn't come last week.  Our fault on that.I think we had at least an inch of rain yesterday. We hadn't put out our rain gauge yet. Hubby put it out after lunch and we got .35" just in the afternoon.

I did make it to class yesterday since they called so early. One of our members had a birthday- brought pink cupcakes for treats- she is 86. That sounds old but she is still very active and spry. We were all commenting on the ages for the elderly classification that was mentioned on television as being more susceptible to get the latest virus. What a kick in the head to realize we were already in that group!!!

cal- It has already crossed my mind that duke's mom might offer him to me. As much as I love him I just don't know what I would do. Sigh.

My friend brought me an article about the trio nest in Illinois near Clinton, Iowa. I'd heard about the nest and this article was very informative- the 2 males lost the female in 2017 and they successfully raised the 2 eaglets and then took on a new female. The article was in the Cedar Rapids Gazette on March 5th if you are interested. Sorry- I don't know how to post links.

Time for breakfast- have a great day jewelies!
