hi cal... Hope Jim can find time to fix your fence.  You're right... don't need vet bills, but sure would be nice if BooBoo could scare the stuffing out of the dog and make him go home and stay there.  Clemson has the weekend off... then, next week it's rivalry week... South Carolina.  Have to eat chicken that day... you know... they're the gamecocks.  lol  Sorry, I know you're not going to eat chicken, no matter who they are.  lol  Youngest grand's birthday is next Monday... 17!  Wow.  I paid for her Europe trip yesterday... like I did for her sister.  It's not for another year and a half... after she graduates.  Monday we're eating at the Japanese restaurant (the one with the grill and twirling knives, and burning onions... lol).  Her boyfriend and his brother and dad will be joining us this year.  Woohoo... my ex, too.  We even have to pick him up.  What fun!   ::)

hi jewelies it is 33 here 44 in the barn.

hi jp! Hope you are doing good! :)

hi ra! jim had a hog panel up by his shop we took inside and laid down on the truck bed and the gator. found some horse fence it has the little squares so a horse cant paw it but also i wanted it hooked on the hog panel so a goat could not get its head thru it either. we tied all that down took it up to that far hay field saw the place where the dog was getting in big dip in the ground and where that coyote was getting into tims too. we got a shovel tried to smooth that out the best we could. on the hog panel we cut that at the bottom and left long spikes. jim pushed it down in the ground and i tied it tight to the existing fence we stapled down the fence back on that wooden post. tim has the animals running along the fences but never fixes them pearl pasture fence is just our fence. always in good shape. so still a spot where it slopes but i do not think that big dog can get under it jim will put some big rocks there. now if the dog finds another spot we will have to do it again. our job to keep tims animals off our property. that took hours to do that i was like 3:30! dogs not fed cats not fed pearl will need her grain and hay for the night soon. i can not believe youngest grand 17! cant believe hadley almost 3. that is really nice paying her trip i know how much your other grand loved that trip. huge memory for them. yay ex is going too! :) you didnt think that would not happen did you! i have never ate at a japanese place do they have vegan stuff there?

hi jo how are you guys doing? did you get the arrangements all made on your brother? jims mom was doing better yesterday afternoon they were getting ready to move her to a room out of icu. they had given her stuff to make her poop getting her liver and stuff going and put a tube up her butt to catch it in a bag and the nurse told jim she told her wait till i tell my boy what you are doing to me he will bop you on the head! they told jims dad that they will send hospice to their house but not like she is ready for that kind of hospice they will help him with her her medicine and bathing and stuff but when the time comes be there for that too. bring a hospital bed to their house. jim said they were hugging each other telling each other how much they loved each other. jim said this morning his sister told him last night cause jim was worn out from the fence and stuff he did not go back down there he went to bed but his sister said she was ready to go i said home or to god he said god but physically she is really doing better they said her mind kinda comes and goes with this sepsis. i feel like its day to day really with her. i sure do miss my younger days still having everyone.

Good morning everyone- cal- so glad you got that fence fixed; we have a neighbor whose dogs periodically get out and sometimes end up on our property. Mostly they just move through- my 2 outside guys are usually nowhere in sight and have plenty of places to hide and trees to climb. Still annoying that they show up here.

ra- how was your Japanese dinner- yummy stuff?? I got lunch for us yesterday from the place who makes the great cinnamon rolls. Unfortunately they changed hours for the winter to just lunch and supper. No more morning rolls unless I order them. Hubby had meat loaf meal and I had a cheeseburger- very good. I put on some butter lettuce that we got at Centril. It's from a place in Memphis, Mo. and is hydroponically grown. No dirt- just water on the roots. I haven't been able to get it locally here and was glad to see it at Dutchmen's.

Coffee and rolls at Best of Iowa with "the girls"  this morning. This group doesn't meet often so will be good to see everyone today. We all live close but have a difficult time getting a time suitable for all of us.

Football starts at 11- Iowa plays Illinois and Iowa State plays Kansas I think.

Have a great day jewelies!

hi cal- getting settled in for game. btn is big ten network. Big ten is a misnomer since there are 14 teams in that conference.  I am really lucky - have never had a dog here that digs- my Waggles never a digger and Duke is too short to dig.lol

Hi Jewelies!  Been raining all day and supposed to do it all day.  Good day for football without feeling guilty that I'm not out raking leaves.  lol

cal... Yes, we get BTN... channel 610 here.  You could come and eat with us at the Japanese place on Monday!  You could have fried rice and grilled veggies, without the meat.  I used to have steak, chicken, and shrimp with mine, but now just do the chicken and shrimp.  They cook everything separate, but you'd have to tell them to cook your rice without the scrambled eggs that they mix with it.  What kind of dogs does Tim have?  I had to go to the vet yesterday for some of Handsome's food, and there was the cutest dog there.  I asked the woman what kind it was and she said corgi/pomeranian.  It was so cute... looked like it was smiling at me.  lol

lupine... Our dinner is on Monday, the 25th.  What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?  I found out yesterday that we're going to my daughter's inlaw's house.  I'm making mashed potatoes and apple crisp.  Southerners typically have rice and gravy, instead of mashed potatoes, so I've always taken then to the dinners.  Funny... seems like everyone likes them and I hardly ever have leftovers.  lol

Hi to all!  May all your teams win today!  I'm watching Ohio State/Penn State... checking out our maybe competition.

Hi Jewelies! It's a cold rainy day with snow flurries expected this evening. Ugh.

Jo, I'm so sorry to hear about Bruce's passing. Glad you were able to spend time with him. You were a good brother. My thoughts are with you and the family.

Cal, hope Jim's mom gets to come home soon and that Jim's dad will have someone to help him take care of her. I had to laugh when she told the nurse her son would bop them on the head for doing that to her! She has good sense of humor! Your cake looks so yummy. I could eat a big slice of that with a glass of milk! Yum, yum! Glad you guys were able to get the fence fixed. It's a shame you have to do that. Tim is a horrible neighbor. Shouldn't be allowed to have animals. One evening Rue dug a hole under Robin's fence. She got out then Boo and Kessel followed. Thank goodness scaredy-cat Boo hung around the house but Rue and Kessel we're gone overnight. They were both found the next morning outside the Olive Garden. Somehow they managed to cross 6 lanes of traffic! What a nightmare that night was!

Ra, I can't believe the grand will be 17! It just doesn't seem possible! That trip you are giving her, like you did her sister, is a wonderful gift! You are a good gramma! Oh, boy, you get to eat with your ex again! How is he doing? I can't imagine eating rice and gravy! I love mashed potatoes and gravy. Guess I'm not southern enough! Lol!

Lupe, you eat at the best places! The food always sounds so good!

Jp,  so good to see your post! Glad you are feeling better!

Have a nice evening! :)

hi lupe congrats on your hawkeyes i think iowa state won too thanks for btn info! i would guess little dogs would dig little holes all day yelling at the girls

hi ra! i do get 610 neb game on 610 ia also one of my sports show on the radio am i had ohio game on too saw it coming and going they beat penn.yay jo i would love come eat with you monday do i have to sit next to ex? sounds good rice and veggie no egg that is right. im with rues no rice and gravy i dont eat gravy but i like rice and some different stuff on it. sweet and sour sauce yum hot spicy sauce yum ive been eating bake potato from walmart washed in a wrapper 88 cents put it in the microwave wrapper and all cook five minutes i put mild pica de gallo on it. tims dog look mostly like great white pyreense i saw an ad in our local paper pair of free to a good home told jim they will show up at tims and they did. not full pyreense but close i should of called that number told them go look at his place dont give them your dogs. they finally came out back girls were out they only came down partway barking let big boo deluxe out and the mean barky one came down farther boo boo dancing around but tims dogs did not go over to where that hole was. tims chickens running all over fixing that fence will help keep the coyottes from a chicken dinner or hurting tims dogs. my grandmother loved poms she has the red ones beautiful hair she would brush out josie everyday while watching her stories papa brush out his pom rusty dog while also watching the stories. corgis are so cute stephen king has corgis.

hi rues that is one scarey story about rues boo and kessel great escape! more scarey than stephen king omg how they made it! yay for scarey cat boo six lanes of traffic! did olive garden call robin?  its nice here little chilly but sun is out the wind is a pain almost every day we get wind. i saw crows team lost. does he see coyotee george much?

hi cal... I don't know who gets to sit by ex.  I'll sit in the next room if I end up next to him!  lol  I'm getting ready to watch KState game...FS1.  LSU/Arkansas is on at the same time... ESPN.  Bama played Western Carolina today... a tiny little mountain college and beat them big.  I heard them say that Western got over $500,000 for the game... win or lose.   Not bad for a small school.  The dog at the vet looked more like a corgi, I think.  It was white.  I've never seen those potatoes at Walmart... a good idea!  I'll have to look for them next time I'm there.  I wonder if my grocery store has them...

rues... I forgot all about the "big escape" story!  How scary!!  I don't know how my ex is doing... I haven't seen him since graduation and don't usually ask.  lol  I don't like rice and gravy either... I'd rather have butter on my mashed potatoes... I'm real picky about gravy.  I don't like the creamed kind at all.  Hope you don't get too much snow tonight!!

Daily Updates
Winter, Wildlife, and a Mystery - UPDATE November 23, 2019
23 November 2019
 Print Email
With 10 inches of sudden snow in the last couple days, winter is here. I say, if it looks like winter and it feels like winter, it?s winter no matter what the date. I believe we?ll be keeping this snow for the next 4 or 5 months.Mink Stripe
Mink Stripe

Stripe the mink has it made, living under the front deck and all she has to do is look pleadingly in the window at me as she is doing in the picture and someone will leap to give her all the bologna she wants. Red Squirrels are burrowing in the snow. Chickadees and White-breasted Nuthatches are hampered in their searches and hungry for suet and sunflower seed hearts. And then I noticed a mystery.

The beavers had been busy climbing up the outside of their lodge, which I said earlier that they can?t do. I wanted to walk on the ice to track them, but I?m not as brave on early ice as I used to be. I thought about walking around the lake where the photo shows the snowy trees along the shore, but I didn?t have time. So I have to rely on someone who reads this to ?splain it to me. I tried to look it up and saw ?When the water surface freezes over, beavers lose access to trees on shore.? They must have a secret hole in the ice. I might chop a hole of my own to see how thick the ice is and avoid the center part of the lake which is the last to freeze. Inquiring minds want to know.

Thank you for all you do.
