Lily, Cubs, Mink, Mice - UPDATE November 09, 2019
09 November 2019
 Print Email
A trail camera check revealed that Lily and her four cubs have not exited from their den since 5:20 PM on October 22. This spurs ideas.Mink female with chin patch - 12-18
Mink female with chin patch - Dec. 2018

Here at the WRI, I was taking a break from my desk and having chickadees land on my hand when a mink appeared, dove under the second floor deck, and nearly caught a squirrel. The mink knew me and didn?t run when I walked inside, opened the frige for bologna, and saw a bag of mice. The mink stood up to take one from my hand and showed me her chin patch identifying her as Stripe from last year. We have now seen both Stripe and Clear but worry because trapping season is on and we haven?t seen Clear for days. Stripe was soon back for another mouse, and I dangled bologna and a mouse together. She nudged past the bologna to take the mouse, which may explain why we haven?t seen either mink through the warm months. They were probably out mousing and not missing the bologna. She came back two more times and made the same choice. I hope to see her every day?and Clear, too. The picture of Stripe with her distinctive striped chin patch is from December 13, 2018.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- what a day yesterday- really nice and sunny- got a place for my bird feeder set up; had to empty the dirt from the container- move the very heavy stand- old base from a sewing machine- then put the container on top with
bricks in the bottom. Removing the dirt showed that my theory that the bottoms were rusting out was true. The containers were old wash tubs a neighbor gave me. They were her mothers. I had an inkling that there were more holes in the bottom this summer because when I watered I noticed water coming out from various places. Had to water more frequently too. Well, I put the container under the clothes line where I could see it from my recliner. It kind of looks out of place but maybe i'll get used to it.
Then I mowed through some leaves- had to really coax speedy but he started.

Bummer football yesterday- I was surprised Iowa stayed close to Wisconsin. Surprised Minnesota beat Penn State; and I only watched part of the first quarter of the ISU and Oklahoma game. I checked the score this morning and Oklahoma only won by one point. What a surprise.
A friend dropped in and we visited while watching the Iowa game. She surprises us by calling from our drive way. Very funny!! She brought her dog along so we all had a nice visit.

I don't think there are any games on tv here that I want to see. Cal- so glad Mahomes is playing. Go Chiefs!!

Time for breakfast- have a great day jewelies!

Ohio with her black eyes.

Hello all.  I am still here but slowed down considerably.  I can'ts eem to get my mind working smoothly.  I work a lot of jigsaw puzzles but that does not require much application of the mind.

I'll try to keep posting here more often but I do read the posts and consider myself active in the thread.

Have a great day all you Jewelies.
