Morning everyone- very sad this day; willi will be missed. I have found lately that adjusting to the inevitable changes in life as we age a constant struggle. And even though I acknowledge that change is inevitable I need to accept the "new" normal. Well- that is about as philosophical as I can get.
So ?.set out to have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies. Well, the killing frost/freeze finally came overnight. It got down to 28. All my morning glory vines are mush so I pulled them up. I always check for preying mantis egg sacs on the vines because they seem to like leaving their eggs there. I was happy to find 2! That always brightens my day! Then I noticed a UHaul truck next door. I was hoping a grandchild or someone was moving in with our neighbors but to my dismay my neighbors are moving.  :( They have rented that house for 21 years. Their landlady recently died and her kids are selling all her properties. My neighbors had hoped to buy the house but the kids said sorry they need to go! They are moving to Tennessee tomorrow! They were the best neighbors...they didn't bother us and we didn't bother them! If we needed them or they needed us we were there for each other. Makes me so sad to see them to go.

Cal, did you get the dish pole fixed? Were you able to watch Blacklist last night? Good for Jim and his sisters for making sure their parents have food. My sister and I took turns fixing meals for Mom for several months before she broke her hip.

Lupe, I'm with you... adjusting to changes in my life is a constant struggle. I don't like it one bit.

Ra, I went to Robin's to sit with her while she handed out candy. The wind was blowing so hard and I was freezing. Yippee, Tasha stopped by and I gladly gave my spot on the porch step to her! Then I came home! Surprisingly Robin had a lot of kids that came out for candy. There were wind gusts up 40mph! One lady told Robin that she had told her son that she would go to Walmart and get him a big bag of candy if they could just go home. He said...no, he wanted to knock on people's doors! Lol! Most of Robin's neighbors sit out in the yard and hand out candy!

Jo, sorry PNC treated you so badly. Glad it's all worked out now.

See you all tomorrow.

D32 Update ~

Remember that we've said D32 is incredibly camera-shy so rather than stress D32 (and Kay), we're not focusing on new photos, sorry.

The red-tailed hawks in the 20x60' flight pen had the soft-release window opened, but they are still coming and going.

As soon as these red-tailed hawks tell Kay they don't need any more support (not returning to the flight pen) then the plan is to move some eagles into the 20x60? flight pen, including D32.

Remembers plans do not always go as planned.

Daily Updates
Changing of the Guard and GiveMN - UPDATE November 2, 2019
02 November 2019
 Print Email
Limpy hasn't come back since October 28th. Scaredy Cat is here now being his usual skittish self. He only comes at night and this time looks browner than we've noticed before.Scaredy cat
Scaredy cat

Raccoons now include the 3 small ones (14, 17, and 19 pounds) of the other night, a bigger one at 29 pounds, and this bulky one that stayed off the scale. I don't know how big raccoons get. I looked it up on Google and Wikipedia but was confused by records of 50, 57, 62.6, and 75 pounds. Maybe some of those were captives. Raccoon
Raccoon
The big one here might be the biggest one I ever saw. I suspect they don't get as big up here as might be found in areas with longer growing seasons and a greater variety of foods.

A mink ran by on the ice out on the lake but didn't stop by. Maybe it wasn't the mink named Clear. A neighbor on a nearby lake sees them out on the ice but not in their yard, too.

As you know, the annual Give to the Max day is one of the biggest fundraisers for the North American Bear Center.

GiveMN Early Giving

This year we will be making some enhancements to the bear enclosure. This will be the initial phase of a larger project. Give to the Max Day donations will be used to replace fencing, enhance drainage and improve structures in our bears? individual enclosures. We invest your Give to the Max Day donations into long-lasting capital improvements so your dollars continue to help bears for years to come. Golden TicketEarly Giving started yesterday which means all donations received November 1st through the 14th have a chance at winning $500 Golden Tickets which are awarded every day through November 14!

Good morning everyone- so glad the computer has the correct time since I haven't changed the clocks yet. cal- I mowed yesterday- speedy the mower wouldn't start for me so hubby put the battery charger on for awhile.  Started right up. It was about 5 PM and I had on turtle neck, insulated sweatshirt, windbreaker, hat, earmuffs and gloves. Couldn't remember where I stored my snowpants so jus jeans. It was chilly but I feel so much better getting the leaves mulched up. They totally covered the grass in some areas. Didn't mow the whole lawn --just where the leaves were the thickest.

cal- so glad your tv is fixed and a better picture- YAY!

rues- i'm so proud of you- looking for praying mantis eggs, What did you do with the 2 you found. I always check the plants that are close to my butterfly weed when I clean them off. Don't want to harm the larva.. but I've never found any. I do think they can survive the winter.

Spitty and Shadow have been enjoying the cat barn. Nice in there when the sun is out. I also fixed another box for them in the summer house. My sil had 2 brand new cardboard boxes that she gave me and they fit in a big wooden box I had used in the past. Should be warm and draft free in there too.

Looks like a nice day today- maybe a ride is on the agenda. Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies! Did everyone remember to change your clocks last night? I changed mine last night around 6pm! Talk about being confused the rest of the evening! Nice sunny day today but the wind makes 56 feel like 30!

Cal, glad you got the new dish pole! Sounds like the new dish is much better. So sorry about Smokey's injuries! I hope you didn't injure yourself. Last winter Crow backed into a pole at the donut shop and scratched the whole back side of his truck! He tells everyone that I did it backing out of the garage! Can't believe we had that truck for 17yrs and now it gets all banged up! He decided not to fix it. Our neighbors asked their landlady several times if she would sell them the house but she said she couldn't because she had inherited the property from her dad. And he wanted all  the properties to stay in the family. We had originally rented our house from him for 4 yrs. When I got pregnant we asked if he would sell it to us. He said no because he liked owning the entire block! But his wife told him to sell us the house, so he did! Now the grandkids, who all live in South Carolina, have inherited all the real estate and they are selling everything. Apparently some one wants to buy all 3 properties and that's why my neighbors have to move. They will be living with family in Chattanooga. That's nice that Jim got to spend some time with his dad!  And got his mom a chocolate malt! I have never had a malt! Jim is so lucky to still have his parents. I miss my mom every day. My dad died in 1976. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Lupe, I left the egg casings where I found them. One was on the fence under a morning glory vine and the other was attached to my weather vane pole where a morning glory was growing. Both were glued on tight! In the past I've found them on tomato cages and bamboo sticks. I'll keep an eye on them this winter and make sure they stay put. Sounds like Spitty and Shadow are all set for winter! My sis's black cat is named Shadow! He's about 15 now.

Have a nice evening! :)

Hi Jewelies!  Sunny, but only around 60o, and a little windy.  I raked some leaves, and cleaned up sticks in my little patch of woods.  Yup, cal is right... we watched a great win by the Chiefs today!  Clemson won big yesterday, and our high school LOST big Friday night.  It was cold!!  We ended up leaving around halftime,it was so cold... only about 40o and damp.

cal... Sure is good that you have somebody to fix Smokey and it won't cost you an arm and a leg!  glad your dish is back up and working!  Thanks for the latest update on D32.  How does an eagle get to be camera shy??  lol  I agree with rues... Jim is so lucky to be able to spend time with his parents and help them.  I miss my mom every day, too.  I haven't seen any woolly worms this year... I wonder why.

rues... Clemson grand works at the grocery store here in town once a month to stay on their books and today was her day.  She called me when she was done for the day and asked if I had muffins.  lol  I always have some in the freezer for her, so she came and got them and ended up having sloppy joes with me.   You've never had a chocolate malt??  What did you do for fun when you were a teenager?  That's when I had a lot of them!  lol   I changed my clocks last night, too, but it was right before I went to bed... not at 6pm!  lol  Sad about your neighbors... people don't have any sympathy anymore, it seems.  I love hearing that I'm not the only one who saves the praying mantis' egg sacs.  I always find them on bushes and cut the sticks and put them where I can watch them.

Lupine... Did you get to go for your ride today?

Hi to everyone!  Hope you all have a nice evening... even though it's going to be an extra long one!!  lol  Always seems like the evening will never end right after the time changes!
