Cal, glad Jim did well with his procedure! What an ordeal you went through getting to the surgery center! I get very nervous when I have to go someplace new by myself! I did something yesterday morning that I had never done before! I went with my sister and Sandy and picked apples at an apple orchard! The farm, Hidden Hills Orchard, is just outside Marietta, Ohio, about 20 miles from here. Yesterday you could pick Honeycrisp and Buckeye Gala. Of course, we picked Honeycrisp the most expensive of the 2 varieties! I picked a peck. Sis and Sandy picked a half bushel! Today I made apple butter in my electric pressure cooker. Crow loves apple butter on biscuits. I kept out 10 apples for eating. Next week or so the golden delicious will be ready. We plan on going back to pick some of those, too. This is an off year for my apple tree so not many apples to pick. Next year she should do well. Sis said near the end of the season the farm has the most delicious apple cider that is made from their 20 apple varieties. Have to go back and get some of that, too. The farm has about 5000 apple trees planted all over the hillsides. You did a very good deed saving the mouse! I know for sure that I could not confront a snake!
Jp, thank you for the red hibiscus! It is beautiful. I have a potted double red hibiscus. A neighbor gave me a clipping from his years ago. His grew so big that he actually built a small addition to his family room to house the plant! Mine summers outdoors and I noticed the other day that it had whiteflies! I treated it and will make sure it is bug free before it comes inside this fall.
Lupe, I scope things out, too, before I have to go to a new destination! Well, actually, I have Crow take me and we scope it out together! Lol! Not much is blooming in my yard now either, except for the annuals and my crape myrtle bush. I thought the winter freezes had killed the crape myrtle but it miraculously came back to life and started blooming last week. My morning glories finally started blooming but they are no match to last year's. I had an abundance of moonflower last year and not one flower has bloomed this year.
They are one of my favorite. The hyacinth bean are the only vines that are blooming well. My day lilies didn't do well either. What a summer...too much rain and too much heat. Hope we have a nice fall! Did you see Dr Jeff last night? Boo is a 13 year old Weimaraner with fatty tumors like Max on the show. Our vet said with Boo's age she would not do anything about the lipomas as long as they didn't bother him. Sad about Max's situation.
Jo, you were so lucky someone nice turned your glasses into the lost and found! I'm probably worse than you with puzzle times! Lol!
So sad about John McCain's passing. I didn't always agree with his politics but he was a true war hero.
Have a nice evening, Jewelies!
