Jp, feel better soon! Miss you!

Cal, glad today went well for you! Dr Z sounds like a good dr! Much better than the goat killer! Try to take it easy today! Good that Jim's friend will take him to the center for his knee procedure! That should help you out a lot! That is a good pic of Dr Rogers in the canoe on the lake. Looks so serene. A couple of the other nearby towns open their pools up for dogs at the end of the season. Our pool charges $5 per dog to enter. That money is then given to our local Humane Society. Sis only let Madison stay in the water for 45 minutes. That's when she saw poop floating by and said time to go home! Lol!

Lupe, I agree with you...that plant looks like a pumpkin on a stick! Cool plant! Tank looks like he was having fun looking for the mouse! Cool pic of the caterpillar, too! Thanks for sharing! Sounds like you and your "sisters" and niece had a nice time! On Dr Jeff, the lady was right when she said her dog saved her life when he charged at the guy that broke into their motel room! I'm glad, too, that the guys were apprehended. What horrible people.

Jo, so happy that Joan is having fun shopping!  :)

Have a nice afternoon, Jewelies!

Spanky, Hazelnuts, Nighthawks - UPDATE August 21, 2018
 Print  Email
Three-year-old Spanky got himself bitten on the butt?probably by Bow?s daughter Nancy (3) who has three cubs. Spanky
Spanky 6pm 8/21
We saw Nancy chase him two nights ago. The next morning, we photographed the open bite wound about 2 inches in diameter on his right hind quarter. A veterinarian said this shallow wound will heal without intervention. The neighborhood is watching over him and sent a picture of him at 6 PM today.

Hazelnuts
Hazelnuts
Another piece of the puzzle fell into place today about why we are seeing a good number of bears in a year that began with great promise of a bumper crop of bear foods. The hazelnuts (Corylus cornuta) the group found today were empty shells with holes in them. Filbertworms (Cydia latiferreana) burrow into hazelnuts, eat them, and burrow out 2-4 weeks later, leaving empty shells and hungry bears. This reminds me of 1989 when Terri and her cubs Spanky's wound
Spanky's wound 8/19
Gerry and Mary were faced with empty hazelnuts. They left this area and traveled 41 miles to Lake Superior to eat good hazelnuts for the next month before returning home in early September. The photo shows the exit hole in an empty hazelnut. Next to it are the shell parts of a similarly empty hazelnut.

The fall bird migration began a couple days ago with hundreds of nighthawks (Cordeiles minor) taking wing and flying over. They leave this area earlier and migrate farther than most birds, wintering as far as Argentina and Uruguay.

Thank you for all you do.

Good his people in that neighborhood will be watching over him and vet said it would heal. wish a vet would of helped poor dobie.   cool about the nighthawk and their journey. i googled them..https://youtu.be/lWQ0B4Cuhf4

i slept so good last night i woke up at 2 am and my toes shots had worn off. so this morning my foot is sore and tender  on the bottom where he cut my three toes. very sore. i had a time in the barn picking up after pearl i did put my surgical sock back on and then a sock over it sandals on no boots yet not at all. got my sisters cane with me now. poor susies having to use it all the time cause of her poor lungs. my lungs good asked the dogs. lots of yelling around here. get off my foot!! watch for my foot!! if you step on my foot one more time!! thanks goodness sister is here she will take the poop bucket out for me. and i am so happy i do not have to go to walmart today!! jim looked at my toes and he said look your color is back in that toe. before all clawed up that really sore one the end of my toe white and on my other foot the ends are whitish. happy he is not having his knee surgery today too. i hope my foot much better by friday.  i have to go out in the morning with the puppies they are scared of the dark even with the porch light on. but jim walk in my room and they jump in front of me growling at him. so brave they are. my girls.

Good morning everyone- 5:41 on the bear Mississippi river puzzle- ty cal- good to hear from you and glad you are getting some relief from pain; did the doctor say how long the pain from the procedure will last? Probably will be less and less each day- I hope. So glad sister is there to help with the chores- give her a hug from me! Laughing at the girls protecting you from jim then being afraid to go outside in the dark- really tough aren't they.

it is 55 here- had to close the windows before I went to bed last night; today will be pretty nice too then maybe heat back by the weekend. it's been 2 weeks since we mowed- will have to mow this afternoon. Thanks for the night hawk video- they really have a long journey ahead of them-nature is magical. then there is spanky- that wound looks terrible but at least he was smart enough to run away from Nancy- thus the bite on the butt and not on the face.

Today is my nephew's birthday- going to the Amish bakery to get his (and mine) favorite donuts and some cookies too. We both try to limit our sweets but today is special. He is a special guy!

jp- I hope you are feeling better- I miss you- get well!

Have a great day jewelies.
