Cal,  I have had two left foot hammer toe surgeries.  The most recent was a tendon cut that worked great.  Really no sweat.  A Couple numbing shots was the most significant part.   Then a tiny knife inserted through skin below center of toe, and swung very slightly sideways severed tendon.  Put on a bandaid.  Wore very soft mesh surgical legging and a velcro protective slipper for three days.  That was it.
Toe is flat, and no longer hurts to wear a shoe.  It was all humped up with the tip worn off before.  Always had a blood blister like sore on end.  All better now.
For years my feet hurt me so bad from joints hitting inside of shoes I could not walk far.  Much better now.
Hammer toes are just so painful, and the tendon surgery was so effective I hope you do well.  Sounds like you have a good modern doctor.
BTW  Went to Lehmans and Berlin,Ohio (Amish Country) yesterday.  Joan had a great day shopping.  She is out shopping with our grand Mary now.  They will buy some stuff.  I am sure, because Mary and her husband are moving to a single family rental on the 25th.  Joan will make sure they have what they need.  It is what she does best.
Bye for now and may  God bless all in need.

What did I just say?  Mary and Joan came in.  They bought a numerous piece wicker porch ensemble.  So tomorrow will be a multi trip moving experience.
Do I know Joan?  LOL  Mary is so happy.  So this makes Joan happy. Which makes me happy too.  Bye again.

Cal, my goodness, I didn't realize your toes were that bad! I thought it was a toenail thing! Glad Johoward explained his surgery. It helps to have first hand knowledge. You should feel so much better after it is all over with. Excited to see pup pics and video! Hope Polly got there ok!

Jp, hope the grumpies have left you! :)

Lupe, how sweet that Duke let you know he had to go outside! He is a good boy! Molly had an accident yesterday in the basement. She couldn't get to the steps fast enough and peed at the bottom step.  No scolding her because she is a senior dog and sometimes these accidents happen. I forgot to ask you what a pumpkin on a stick is?

Johoward, thanks for your toe info! What fun for Joan and Mary to go shopping! I love wicker porch furniture!

Bears, Cubs, and Interviews - UPDATE August 14, 2018
 Print  Email
Among the many highlights of this day of bears and cubs was the return of RC and her family who had the neighborhood worried. RC's cub by Linda Pottinger

She coincidentally had disappeared for a few days after we heard a gunshot. We confirmed that she has two males and a female. All okay. The photos again are by Black Bear Field Course participants Denise Bradley and Linda Pottinger.

Among the bears was a lean newcomer?a long-legged young male, probably a 3-year-old, who may have stumbled into this area while dispersing from his natal area as young males do.

It was also a day of interviews for the documentary.

Beautiful weather, fun people, and bears that ranged from awesome to super cute. A great day.

Good morning everyone- thanks jp for sparkly teddy with the sassy hat, jenny and the rose; what is a sandpiper day?

cal- so glad you are getting rain; what came this way went around us- we didn't have a drop but still a chance today; very warm and humid out already this morning;atmosphere looks juicy. I had hammer toes as a child but I don't think they were nearly as bad as yours. I did wear corrective shoes- big ugly brown clunky things. My feet don't look entirely normal now but there is no pain. I'm so glad you will get relief from the pain. So puppies get surgery on Monday- pick them up first thing then you go in at 10:45. I hope jim goes with you- will he do your chores for a couple of days? Really had to laugh at the vision of griz eating a cookie with his eyes shut- nothing wrong with his smeller!

rues- if I have a chance today i'll get a picture of my pumpkin on a stick- they are just ornamental things which I don't usually take the time with but they are cute.Went to my local greenhouse and got mums yesterday for the containers. Mums are my favorite- I really love the fall. Here it is very difficult to get mums to come back so I treat them as an annual.

Have a great day jewelies!

CAL   I also had another toe straightened. This was about 30 years ago.  It was done on an outpatient basis.  Much more drastic, but also effective.  I watched it all.  He took out chunks of the second and third bones from the tip.  Then he took out a piece of the tendon that lifts the toe.  Then he drilled into the end of the toe , and inserted a steel pin straight through the end two bones and threaded it into the end of the shortened third bone.  So the toe is a little short.  It is straight and stiff as a nail, but it looks about right and does not hurt.  Unless I stub it into a chair leg.  Which I often do. Then OUCH!  LOL  As I recall even this extensive rebuild healed pretty quickly, and when swelling went down I could wear shoes again.  I now have another hammer toe on my right foot, and will probably have it fixed sometime this winter.  I think in a short time, one or two months, you will walk without toe pain.  We will pray for your relief.
JP    I am also wondering what is a "sandpdiper day"?

Have you ever been to the shore and watched the sandpipers running along the waters edge?  They move so fast and try to evade the water that it is a joy to watch.  No one can watch ihem without being happy.  So, a sandpiper day is a day of joy and contentment.

hi jo i wanted you to tell me how bad the numb shots to the toes will be next tuesday. so on that toe woth all the stuff did they leave your nail on? you must of had a block on it to watch it. i do not want to watch do not want to feel pain of surgery. so guess go to sleep if i have to do that. my doctor saying to take whole top off all six toes if it comes to that. hard for me to understand how my balance will be with that done not that it is good now but hoping for good balance when my toes are flat again. looked at sisters her toes all flat and straight. dr good doing all my toes well the three in the middle on both feet cause of them are bad then hopefully i will not have any problems down the road with this. he does that op surgery and removes all that hope no more problems be out of toe to remove. you still have feeling in that shorten toe stub if you felt pain stubbing it. yes that is painful! today puppies have stepped on my really sore toe few times takes my breath away the pain i sure hope no one steps on it when i get home from tendon cutting tuesday. yes please pray for me. pray no one steps on it.

hi lupe nope i do not need jim to go i will be okay. scared about the shots. i will have to get up earlier tuesday do extra food for mom cats mine in the basement leave food in sisters room for them when she comes up she will feed them and again in the morning yes go get the girls opposite way get them home get down to dr goods. if pete did not charge a fortune i would take them there get them home same day but she is 100 per dog he is 215 per dog i know people who go on oh their dog they have one little bitty dog they should have my herd they would be happy to just have their one again a little one at that. it rained here on and off today yes humid hot sticky not cool at all the puppies run in the rain soaking wet i said get in here they ran under the deck all dirt under there now mud and then they are mudballs run in the house fly by me watch my foot! you should see my floors! boo boo went out all wet but he came right back in and he can not fit under the deck. he ran in bumped my foot i told sister it is stupid really for me to get this done but i am. i will tell dr good i will wear corrective shoes i would wear a brace if that would help. hey puppies never been to iowa boo boo aint either! :)
