Hi Cal! Just took the  four wheel ride with you! Don't know why but for some reason my iPad won't let me type numbers! Any ways, I wore protective eye gear as well as a helmet! Lol! Those two wooden bridges are scary! But I guess you get used to driving over them. Tell Polly there is nothing wrong with her voice! I don't like the sound of my voice either! Nor do I like to get my picture taken! The ride was fun and can't wait to do it again! Glad Jim had the extended warranty on his truck. We have it on our car, too. I didn't come here at all yesterday. We ate at Capt Ds and then later on we both got sick. You know, I don't like fish or seafood so I always order their kids chicken strip meal. Crow had a huge fish sandwich. The only thing we ate in common were hush puppies and Diet Coke. I don't know if that is why we got sick or if it was from something else. I don't think we will eat there again anytime soon. We were supposed to get a bad storm yesterday evening. Radar showed a huge storm barreling across Ohio towards us. As it got close to the river valley it all dissipated! We have a chance of rain all day today but so far not a drop! Temps are still in the mid to upper eighties. Still no numbers on this iPad! I'm ready  for fall. Can't believe school starts Wednesday!

Jp, thank you for all the pretty morning graphics and all the nice pics of the bears we all love!

Lupe, cool that you went inside Dr Jeffs. I figured the office would be busy. I knew the one eyed dog would get adopted! Good for you in finding the Monarch chrysalis! I don't think I have ever seen a Monarch even though they are our state butterfly! Have fun with Duke!

Willi, I couldn't read about the bears, either. :'(

Bow with one of her cubs.

Terrible about the bears in Alaska.  I hope they throw the book at them.

Marlins won in a walk-off in the 11th inning.  They have a double-header against the braves today.

Berries, Coprophagy, and a Bear Play Day - UPDATE August 11, 2018
 Print  Email
What happened to the berries? Bears are appearing in number. Some people are finding blueberries. Others are not. One said the one blueberry she found was shriveled up. Bear Play
Bear Play
In some years upland blueberries fail while lowland blueberries continue. I thought scats would contain a lot of sarsaparilla berries for what I was seeing earlier, but scats we are seeing are almost purely chokecherry (maybe some pincherry). The chokecherry tree out the window is still loaded. But chokecherry trees are not as ubiquitous as blueberry bushes and sarsaparilla plants. So if cherries are all they have as the scats suggest, no wonder bears are showing up big time now.

Bear Play
Bear Play
Whatever the case, chipmunks and crows want berries so bad they are eating bear feces. We say that bear feces don?t smell bad. In the courses, we scoop up a handful. People smell it and say it smells like the berries in it?not that bad. And they apparently don?t smell bad to crows and chipmunks. Two pictures today were of a scat torn apart by crows and a picture of an eastern chipmunk stuffing its cheeks from a cherry scat.

On this 90?F day, herring gulls were panting with their beaks open, showing what it looks like inside. For the bears it was a lot of time in the water. It was like a party. First it was a bear in the tub. Then a bear came to play with the bear in the tub. That scene got repeated a few times. Then it was bears playing in the yard?and bears playing in Woods Lake.Panting Gull
Panting Gull

A relief was a sighting of Braveheart today. She hadn?t been seen since June 26 when berries were ripening. Today, she showed up to jump in a bear tub at one of the community bear feeding stations. Fun was in the air.

Samantha showed up with flaccid breasts and enlarged nipples like she had cubs, lost them, and has now lost her milk.

Oh, if anyone left me a message during July when I had no dial tone for the entire month, I heard that the message thing would come on during that time. However, now when the phone is working again, all there were for messages were 7 from the couple days before the phone started working. We?re back to regular now.

Good morning everyone- thanks jp for the teddy, bow and baby and the Sunday greeting. I'm a bit late today- tennis on late then getting everyone fed and walked was a challenge. cal- I don't see how you do it- all my guys get along or at least pretend to and it's like a zoo- get duke out to potty and feed all cats on porch then get duke in- get him fed- fresh water for all.And that's just with one dog and 3 cats. Phew!

Looking forward to finals today- Sloane Stephens against Simona Halep- have to cheer for Sloane but I really like Simona too. And Rafa- well, he is playing Tsitsipas from Greece. His birthday is today and he is 20. I've seen him play this week and he is good- should be a good match.

duke's parents went to the Iowa State Fair- we went one year on a day that was drizzly rainy and so it was cool. Way too hot for me. Way too early for kids to be in school- probably all ac now.

willi- I didn't watch your video- too painful for me like rues and cal. Sorry.

rues- food poisoning is not fun- hope it was short lived.  It's getting really dry here- not that unusual for August- noticed yesterday that the grass is getting brown. Almost time to get mums for the containers- yay fall!

Have a great day jewelies!

Good morning, Jewelies! It's nice outside. Sunny and only 70 degrees, so far!  I even have the back door open. Just heard a locust! I know it's actually a cicada but we have always called them locust! Not even the same bug! Hard to change old habits! Lol!

Cal, I don't know why this iPad wouldn't let me have numbers yesterday but today....123456789, voila, I have them! I don't know how long iPads last but I do know this thing is getting slow.  Really good update pics today! The gulls mouth pic was cool! And the bears playing. I was confused about Samantha. Did she have cubs and they died?  We always wore our helmets when we rode our mountain bikes on the rail trails. But we never did when we rode the city streets. I think we had that backwards because the concrete streets seem more dangerous than the trails. Crow always wore his helmet and safety gear when he rode his 4wheeler on the Hatfield and McCoy trails. It's mandatory there. He even wears his helmet when he rides at coyote George's! George doesn't wear one.  George used to ride his motorcycle and in Ohio helmets aren't required for motorcycles. They are required in WV. I wonder why schools are starting so early nowadays? The kids just got out of school on June 7th. When I was a kid school was out May29 and didn't start again till after Labor Day. It's a good thing the schools have AC now. Just read your post! Omg, glad Polly moved!

Robin just called and we are going to do a few things. I'll be back later!

hi rues jim got home he can dog sit! good mr. crow wears his helmet at coyote shooting georges place! i think julie wears a helmet when she rides her horse. bruce bought her one. she sold tillie to a good home up in south dakota a friend of hers. she was a pretty mule but getting thrown twice and hurt so bad. i forgot the name of her mare. in kansas you dont have to wear a helmet when riding your motorcycle but missouri yes. so when my first husband and i rode our motorcycle with friends we went to the lake in kansas stopped at mom and dads house dropped off pir helmets my mom did not like me not wearing one but i was young nothing could hurt me back then no fear. sister loved seeing all our motorcycles pull in. i know all schols have ac now my grade school did not my junior high did not but my highschool was brand new we was the first class to go to it and it did. had a pool too tennis courts we got to choose the mascot cougar school colors black and orange school song not a clue. i was a student rep not sure what i did cant remember on the art commitee did party decorations and stuff that was fun susie she was the editor for school paper. sister hated school was not on any stuff she was going to smoke when turned 18 a d she did. hi robin!

hi you guys jim bought me a spotlight! i wanted in cause in the morning at 4 am i go out and take my flashlight turn on porch light look for my rabbits. making sure they did not get in there. i got that gate all fixed but you never know. my new spotlight should help me alot it is really light and plug it in recharge it. when i go out my side door to the barn see my rabbit said hi bun bun and he hopped over to me. he hangs out by old smokey barn close to the dogs yard i worry. jim kinda watched the girls i went to the barn then he came in the barn he had to go get a tire fixed on the trailer. so i took the dogs not griz out and i cleaned dog poop and cut the weeds so i can see better. so hot. i got down on the ground and grass so dry it hurt my knees. dogs all went back to the door come on mom its hot.

rues i was looking at my magazine showing movies coming out and the movie mary poppins returns out dec 19th it says better catch up on your chores before mary poppins commands you this christmas. 54 years after julie andrews immortalized her on the screen emily blunt is shepherding mary back to cherry lane. in the new film set 25 years after the first an economic slump has claimed the banks family home and a tragic death has left jane michael and michaels three children without hope or joy. mary poppins is eccentric as ever when she flies in to set dispositions right.

hi lupe i got tennis on seen a little coming and going

Cal, seems everything old is new now including tv shows and movies! A new Mary Poppins will be interesting! Good of Jim to get you a spotlight! Help you see what is out there. Speaking of lighting the way... after Robin cleaned out her garage(with our help of course) and had a new garage door and opener installed, she was finally able to park her car inside it. It was very dark out there at night so we put up a dusk to dawn light on the front of the garage. The next morning she called to tell us that the light was too bright. It lit up half the neighborhood! Even with her blinds closed it was like day time inside! We took the light fixture down and returned it to Lowes. The girl that works in the lighting dept laughed and laughed at us because we bought a light that was intended for a parking lot!! She said it was way too powerful for a residence! Sometimes we do the stupidest things! :) I'm surprised no one called the police! You went to a brand new high school and I went to one that was 50 years old! This summer it celebrated its 100 birthday! Our 50th reunion is next month.

Lupe, I saw mums at Lowes today!  Did you watch Dr Jeff last night?

Jp, I bet you had a beautiful day there in Key West!

Have a nice evening! :)
