Good morning everyone- ty jp for the bath tub bears, Fern and her 3 C's and the lovely roses- hope your shot help.
I really slept in this am. The "girls" from the "gang" got together last night for coffee and dessert so it was really late before I got to bed. Hardly am ever out after dark. Our hostess made a tiramisu cake and a cheese cake. She had strawberries and blueberries for the cheesecake. We all had a bit of both which were fabulous. Tank woke me- he wanted outside!

rues- I can't tell if tank missed us or not- he did lose some weight- shows me that we need to cut back on feeding him- he still amazes me with his behavior. Before we left I trimmed his nails- he laid on my lap and let me do that= no restraint at all. Then while we were gone he was in the house for 12 hours by himself. He didn't destroy anything- just amazing. Maybe just being outside 12 hours then in the house 12 hours every day wore him out so he slept a lot while inside. We had several perches set up so he could look outside and he used them- but no clawing anywhere and always used the litter pan. YaY!!

cal- am so happy you are harness training with Miss Penny and Miss Brownie- very important; we took our pooch Waggles when we travelled and he didn't mind the leash- he loved to be with us and knew when we got the leash from the closet that he was going too and boy was he overjoyed! Much hopping about! All of the campgrounds that we stayed in had many, many dogs- mostly black ones and very big. Really makes me wish that we had taken tank but he isn't leash trained---yet!

blschue- laughed at your description of the '98 van held together by duct tape. We always take duct tape in our tool kit! Hope your nerve block worked.

Om Wed. we drove into Gunnison, Co( where i lived for 5 years in the early 80's) abd stopped to buy all the things that my hubby forgot to pack. pillow, flipflops and extra boots. Town was very busy- went to the city park and had a picnic lunch out of our cooler. It was pleasant under big trees with a cool breeze. Stopped at a roadside market and headed to Lake City. In Lake City we stopped at the bakery and got lemon bismarks and a huge cinnamon roll then started up Cinnamon Pass. We camped at a BLM campgrougn called Mill Creek. Supper of sweet corn that we bought at the farm market and soup.
This cg is in bear country and had a bear box to put food in. We always put our stuff in the car over night but when there is a bear box we use it- pretty convenient- put the stove in there, too. The people in the site next to ours said they had seen a moose walk right by their site early in the am. I was up early the next day- no moose.  Can't recall ever seeing a moose in CO. just bears.
Have a great day jewelies!

I watched Samantha and Aspen eat nuts for 5:29.

My shots went fine and I am supposed to rest for the  rest of the day.  Have not noticed any change in the pain as yet but they said it might take a couple of days,

Ted resting.

Hello everyone.

The leg pains are still there but I don't think they are as severe.    The doctor said the treatment might take a couple of days to take affect and I might have to have up to 3 sessions.  I will spend today loafing and see how things go.  I thank all for their wishes and sentiments re the leg situation.

The Marlins did not lose because the game got rained out.

More Bears, Birds, and Beauty - UPDATE August 1, 2018

RC and her three cubs made their first appearance of the year yesterday and today Lily
Lily
Lily fulfilled the a dream of some of the course participants, and other bears showed us a variety of behaviors and personalities. Discussion and presentations filled in the gaps. A wonderful time of fun and learning. The look Lily gave me this morning made one of my favorite pictures of her.

I've never seen such a flock of hummingbirds. Blossoms are waning and fledglings have added their numbers. Around the 2 hummingbird feeders, it's a constant buzz of competition with 5 to 10 ruby-throated hummingbirds in view at once. Most are fledglings as shown by their streaked throats. Hummingbirds must have had a baby boom here in this spring with so many blossoms (nectar) that produced so many berries.

The berries in the picture are chokecherries (Prunus virginianus) that are unusually abundant this summer. Scats are filled with them. They have a terrible astringent taste but are a favorite bear food.

The red head on this purple finch shined brightly.

After a month, I finally got my dial tone back today and can again use the land line. Things are finally back to normal after the storm of a little over a month ago.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- ty jp for the sparkly teddy, a resting Ted- so sweet- and the rose
cal- your hummers and the ones in the update remind me that when we camped no matter the elevation there were always hummers that checked us out. In most campground there are camp hosts and other long term campers who hang feeders so hummers are around. They check out anything red and our red rope in the top middle of the tent is always checked out. The rivets on our camp stove in the red part are also checked out. We don't feed the wildlife because as they say-  A fed bear is a dead bear!  It is actually against the law in Colorado to feed big game animals. So contrary to my own instinct I keep wild animals wild.

The trip to American Basin was our highlight on day 3. American Basin has been a favorite of mine for wildflowers but as always the bloom is dependent on snowfall in winter and spring rains. I had met a person in Lake City who told me that the bloom was not the best but still worth the trip. Bloom was not optimal but I still the hike along the creek.  This is also the trailhead for Handies Peak so lots of people there but not on my trail.

hi lupe! your pics are cool! like that trail on cinnamon be nice to ride pearl on it or my four wheeler!  i heard on the news a man got fined for feeding a bear omg he has done it before! really pick on him. they said that too against the law in cal to feed the bears and he did it on his OWN property. i would have my property fenced like here and an electric gate like here. give the bear a remote to it.
