Mating was in the air last night as a medium-sized, scarred-up male mounted a calm 2-year-old Lucy for over 45 minutes until a bigger male came on the scene.
The night before, 7-year-old Daisy, a bear we seldom see, seemed interested in 2-year-old Fred to no avail. Beautiful Daisy is easily recognized because she has a bow on her chest almost exactly like the bow on her mother Bow?s chest. However, unlike Bow, Daisy also has white under her chin, which is hidden in the picture of her from 2015 on the right but revealed in the photo from 2011 on the left. She has a habit of standing up a lot. Daisy seldom visits supplemental feeding areas, and as a result did not have cubs until she was 6 years old.
A treat tonight was a visit from Lucy, who is alone but in obvious estrus. We?ll see what she is up to the next few days.
Thank you for all you do.
