Philippine Eagle
« on: June 08, 2015, 04:03:45 AM »

Must see! Must read! Must click!   Don't miss the glorious photos (thank you, Neil?) or Neil Rettig's account of how he became involved in helping to save the National Bird of the Philippines, the majestic Philippine eagle.

ABS-CBN Corporation is a huge Philippine media conglomerate and this appears to be a major public relations push to publicize the Philippine eagle's fight for survival.

It's hard not to feel hopeless after something like this happens.

Update: There's now a reward and a higher profile public education message about Panama, the Philippine eagle recently shot and killed.

WE HAVE WORK TO DO, PEEPS!!!  From RRP's FB page:

Raptor Resource Project
59 mins ?

Earlier this month a released Philippine Eagle named ‪#‎Pamana‬ was shot and killed. Our friends at the Philippine Eagle Foundation were devastated. Adding to their sorrow, their government is considering stopping Philippine Eagle releases. It is our position that the Philippine Eagle can't be recovered without releases, education, protective laws, and strict enforcement. Dennis Salvador, the director of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, will be testifying in front of the Philippine congress on Tuesday, September 1st, in support of continuing releases.

I've linked to our letter supporting the Philippine Eagle Foundation and future releases. http://www.raptorresource.org/PEF.pdf. We are asking you to support Philippine Eagle releases as well. Please consider posting your positive support on their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/phileaglefdn or Tweet to @PhilEagleFdn. Let our friends in the Philippines know you care. They are doing amazing work, and they had Bob's support as well.

The same thing is happening in the Philippines and the Philippine eagles are the biggest losers.

I don't know if this area is in the Philippine eagles' range, but it sounds similar to what they're up against.

"Patches of tropical rainforest in the southern Philippines harbour some of the world's rarest birds, but nature lovers toting long-lens cameras now share them with people wielding chainsaws, traps and torches."

This research involves China's pandas and bamboo forests, but it would seem to offer a route for other conservation efforts to travel.
