The eagles are the focus of a lawsuit filed Wednesday against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Department of Interior asking a federal judge to block a permit issued last week to allow new housing to be built north of Flatiron Crossing mall in Broomfield. A mated pair of bald eagles in trees about a half mile west of their nest in the Bulrush Wetlands Park in Frederick in December 2017. In the background are the beginnings of a structure used to contain noise from oil and gas operations that were permitted 50 to 60 meters from wildlife habitat just north of Colorado 52 near Weld County Road 5.
