Wright County Conservation Board

ATTENTION WRIGHT COUNTY RESIDENTS AND OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS......On Sunday, Dec. 6th, 2020,  we received a call on a dead BALD EAGLE. The location of the eagle and the proximity to the river bridge suggested that someone had shot the eagle and killed it. The bridge spans the Iowa river and is adjacent to the GROOM WILDLIFE AREA, south of Rowan or NW of Dows. Xrays showed two holes in the head of the eagle. Approximate diameter of a .22 caliber rifle round. The condition of the eagle was such that it was possibly shot on Sat, Dec 5th from the bridge. If you or you know someone that has pertinent information regarding this heinous behavior, please contact the Iowa DNR TIP HOTLINE at 1-800-532-2020 or contact the local sherriff's office or conservation board office. We appreciate any all tips that would help solve this crime.
**********UPDATED INFORMATION**********
In addition to the TIP HOTLINE possible reward money, a private citizen has pledged $100 reward for information that leads to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
********REWARD IS NOW OVER $2,000.00******
This reward money would be in addition to any received from a crimestoppers call. We will not collect any pledge money from individuals until we have a confession and/ or conviction in this case.  Thanks to all who have pledged so far for reward money.
*******MORE UPDATED INFORMATION ********
WOW.....WE ARE HUMBLED WITH THE RESPONSES AND OFFERS FOR REWARD MONEY. WE ARE CURRENTLY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO DO THIS THAT IS THE RIGHT WAY. OUR BIGGEST ISSUE IS, AS A GOVERNMENT AGENCY, CAN WE LEGALLY HAVE A VENMO OR PAYPAL AND IF SO WHAT AND HOW WILL THAT WORK FOR AUDIT PURPOSES. #2...WE DON'T WANT TO ACCEPT MONIES AND MAYBE SIT ON OR WORSE YET NEVER PAY IT OUT, SO THEN HOW DO WE GET REFUNDS BACK TO THOSE WHO DONATED.
SO HAVING SAID THAT, WE ARE KEEPING A RUNNING PLEDGE SHEET AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN HAVE SOMETHING SET UP IN A DAY OR SO......THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERNS AND SUPPORT AND WE WILL UPDATE AS WE GET THIS FIGURED OUT.
******PLEDGED REWARD MONIES ARE NOW OVER $3,000.00*******
SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT THIS CASE, DO THE RIGHT THING AND COME FORWARD SO WE CAN HAVE RESOLUTION TO THIS SENSELESS KILLING OF THE BALD EAGLE.  YOU CAN REMAIN ANNONYMOUS...........THE OFFICE NUMBER FOR THE WRIGHT COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD  IS 515-532-3185.
***********PLEDGED REWARD IS NOW OVER $4,400.00*************
WE THOUGHT WE HAD A LEAD BUT DIDN'T PAN OUT.
