Four quantitative factors constituted a serious threat to African vulture populations in 26 countries (n = 7,819 recorded deaths; Table S5). "Poisoning" includes dead vultures that were victims of intentional or unintentional poisoning. "Trade in traditional medicine" indicates the number of vultures found dead without their heads, or the number of vultures or their parts counted on sale in markets. "Killing for food" indicates the number of dead vultures or their parts counted either when traders were observed at markets or after they were arrested. "Electrical infrastructure" is the number of vultures found electrocuted below power lines or other electrical infrastructure.
