This was last night's evening sky. SSTrig moved further down, she doesn't like to stay in one place.

It's weight day at the colony and the rangers head over to the hidey hole that SSTrig has been staying in lately and pick her up & bring her back towards her original nest. They put her in the basket & take her weight and then return her to the grass. Enjoy some beautiful closeups of SSTrig while we have them!! She is 91 days old today- 3 months old! She is still very young to be so mobile walking so far from her natal nest. She barely stayed ten minutes this time before she was on the move again paddling over to the right and then out of cam view again! She made her way back down the hill once again as seen from the H-cam. Thank you for watching!

Kicking and showing her displeasure at being moved back to her nest for weigh in day. She's a feisty girl! LOL! 




Since hatching at 286g on the 28th of January, the Signal Station Trig chick has grown to 5.8 kg on day 91 (Tuesday 29th of April). This is a 0.1 kg increase on last week’s weight. Today’s weight is 300g below average for a female toroa chick of this age but still within the healthy weigh range. We are not yet halfway to fledging in September, all the chicks still have a lot of growing and developing to do.

Past Royalcam parent news

The parents (GLY and L) of Manaaki have one of the older chicks this season at Plateau, this is their 4th chick.

YRK (parent of Atawhai and Lilibet) and her new mate also have a chick at Wet Rock Track. At 31 years of age, YRK is a very experienced breeder, having raised 8 chicks (including 2 foster chicks) previously. The two female chicks from Plateau and Wet Rock Track are older than the Royalcam chick and have been very healthy weights.

SSTrig hit the jackpot with three feedings from Mom & Dad! RLK returned for a second time late in the afternoon and gave his chick one more feeding for the day! These three feedings should help increase SSTrig's weight! ♥ RLK gives a pretty long feeding this time and when he is finished, he rests on the grass visiting with his chick. SSTrig was happy and content and started right in with gardening on her play nest. Thank you for watching! Lady Hawk

Royal Albatross cam

Since hatching at 286g on the 28th of January, the Signal Station Trig chick has grown to 5.8 kg on day 112 (Tuesday 20th of May, 10.50am). This is a 300g increase on last week’s weight. Today’s weight is 1.2 kg below average for a female toroa chick of this age and of concern.  This was her second supplementary feed from the ranger team, and it consisted of 400ml fluid for hydration and 900g of fish. Two other chicks were supplementary fed today also.


Enough of that! Fluffball SSTrig running away! 


There have been 7 feeds from both parents since last week’s weigh 4 of which were in the 2 days following the last weigh in and 2 on Sunday 18th May when the whole Royalcam family was seen on cam.

Royal Albatross Ranger Sharyn posts that "the Signal Station Trig chick has grown to 6.5 kg on day 119 (Tuesday 27th of May, 10.07 am). This is a 700g increase on last week’s weight. Today’s weight is 0.7 kg below average for a female toroa chick of this age but just within the healthy weight range so there was no supplementary feeding required today. She was also fed by a parent at 3.36pm today which will have pushed her weight closer to the average."

So even though supp fed still just under the average. They burn calories in growing (transforming) and staying warm
