TAKE A TRIP DOWN THE UPPER IOWA RIVER!
Our After the Fledge canoe and kayak trip this year will be on Friday, July 21. We will do a 2-hour ride on the river that will start at the Upper Iowa Resort, in Dorchester, Iowa, which is about a 25 minute drive from the hatchery. The resort has kayaks and canoes available, and they provide a shuttle. Canoe rental is $38, kayak rental is $28, with PFD's and paddles included.

The trip starts at 11 am, so we need to get to the resort by about 10:30 to get signed up and outfitted with boats, personal flotation devices, and paddles.  We will plan on meeting at the hatchery Friday morning at 9, and those who would like to can carpool to the resort, so not everyone has to take their own vehicles. We will have bottled water, fruit, and snacks for you. We hope you can join us - in past river trips we have seen multiple bald eagles, hawks, wood ducks, otters, deer, ducks, quail, so many wonderful creatures. We will have several boaters there to assist you as needed.

If you are interested in doing this river trip with us, please reply to this post and give me your name, email, and cell phone number, and if you will be interested in a canoe or a kayak. If you have questions about this trip, reply to this thread or contact me at (918) 557-8107 (text or voice)

Information on the Trout Run Trail Bike Ride 2023

The bike ride takes place Saturday, July 22. We'll meet at Decorah Bicycles at 9AM CT.  Located at 101 College Drive, Decorah, IA 52101, right next door to the Whippy Dip. :)  Phone number: 563-382-8209. Only Electric-pedal assist bikes are available for renting. We'll get fitted for bikes, helmets, and will be given a tutorial on how to ride the E-bike if you haven't ridden one. Price for the bike rental is $40 for 1-4 hrs. We'll be riding the easier half of the trail which is from the bike shop to the hatchery and back.  It's about 4.5 miles each way.  We'll take a break at the hatchery before heading back. Water and fruit will be provided.  Here's the link to Decorah Bicycles: https://www.decorahbicycles.com/articles/rentals-pg235.htm There are 2 larger hills that we'll encounter so the E-bike pedal assist should come in handy.  It's a beautiful ride and we go past N2B too!  For those that want to do the entire trail, it's an 11-mile loop around the city. https://parks.decorahia.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/TRT_TrailMap-2.jpg We'll be riding numbers #0-4 and end up where the Eagle is on the map. :)

I found an older video of a virtual bike ride on Trout Run Trail.  What's cool is one our 2011 juveniles is in the video.  There is a bug photobomb too. lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBDeUJET3OM and here's another video showing our Decorah Eagles in it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayIRtBL0O34

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me here in the forum or on my Glogdog Decorah FB page.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at After The Fledge!
