Hi ((Beakers)).

TSK, prayers for Tim's daughter-in-law, and her mother. Just awful. The good friend I recently visited in Atlanta is good friends with her next door neighbor, who's daughter and elementary-aged children live in the NC mtns. They're home is now uninhabitable. They may move to Atlanta to live with her parents for who knows how long, and put the kids in school there since the schools in the NC mtns are all mostly closed for the foreseeable future.

BL, thank you!!  :-*  I've taken quite a few slugs of some quite smooth and tasty NC mtns moonshine over the years! ;) It tastes better when pulled quietly from a back pocket and passed around a very small back room group of lifelong mtns locals, some of whom made it, especially good in combination with a mighty fine old time fiddler in the same room. Will kick your a$$. I may have traveled on most roads in Watauga County over the years, including a secret one my sister and i know of that actually connects Boone to Blowing Rock - one skinny hidden muddy dirt path through the woods, and I have traversed it a number of times. Wonder if it exists now, or if it got turned into a bonafide road, either dirt or paved. Take care, I know you will. Take care anyway.

((Karen)), hope it's not anything more than vertigo - as bad as that can be! Hope you get it fixed at your appt.

Phyl, hope Jim and you are feeling better today.

Speaking of Watauga County in the NC mountains. Appalachian State University, part of the NC's state University system, is in Boone, NC, in Watauga County, and it is now closed after significant damage - Boone was horribly damaged, as well as nearby Blowing Rock (my all-time favorite mtn town), and so many other mtn towns I adore and have connections to - Chimney Rock, Black Mountain, and many more. Anyway, App State is now closed due to the damage, they said today, at least until Oct. 15th, or later.

Helene is now the 4th deadliest hurricane in the U.S. since the early 1960s. The numbers are increasing more rapidly as access is gained to more areas. I cry.

The other day, I mentioned my Mtns Sis's son (my nephew, donchaknow) and his wife are helping storm victims, and also have taken on a particular project for an 86-year-old woman storm victim in Lansing, NC, in the NC mountains, that was damaged so badly by mudslides and river flooding. (That Emergency GoFundMe page has received such nice contributions so far - fingers crossed for that woman!) Lansing, NC is a tiny crossroads of a little mountain town not too far from West Jefferson, NC. This morning, my nephew's wife chatted with NC Governor, Roy Cooper, while he was visiting in Lansing, NC.  I am attaching a picture of them, from today, below - click to enlarge - and you will notice that my nephew's wife is standing so close to the camera that there is a lot of distortion, so she looks kinda funny in this photo, LOL, and who cares!?!  ;) I just want to give all of them a great big hug and kiss!!

Baz - last summer, I asked my doctor about getting a tetanus booster as it had been 12 years since my last one.  He told me that Medicare would only cover it if I was being treated for an injury that could lead to tetanus.  The protocol for the shot has been changed and it is no longer suggested for every 10 years.  Is there a difference between the tetanus booster and the TDAP shot?

OG, that's interesting. I don't know the answer to your question, but TDAP for adults is covered by medicare if it has been the recommended amount of time since the last one. The one I got (TDAP by Boostrix) yesterday was covered. I found this:
"The CDC recommends adults get a Tdap booster every 10 years with either Adacel or Boostrix. If needed, you can receive an additional dose of Adacel 8 years or more after the first dose. For Boostrix, you should wait at least 9 years for another dose.Feb 24, 2023"

And:
https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/tdap-shots#:~:text=Medicare%20prescription%20drug%20coverage%20(Part,)%2C%20shingles%2C%20and%20more.
"Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) covers all vaccines that the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends, including the vaccines for Tdap, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), shingles, and more."

So it seems that it is paid for in the combination shot TDAP, for tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). I don't know why it isn't covered as a standalone booster, except in case of exposure via injury, or disease, as you mentioned. I do not know the difference between the tetanus standalone booster vs the tetanus in combo with the other 2 vaccines in the TDAP shot.

Good Afternoon Beakers

I am very late today.  Went to the orthopedic to get my fingers checked out.  My ring and pinky finger on my dominant hand has been killing me since my fall in the kitchen back in August.  He thinks I may have a pinched nerve somewhere as the xrays did not show anything broken.  He also has me on a prescription of prednisone for 7 days to try and get some relief, and calm things down.

tsk - Love the morning pic.  Did you get all of your birdbaths cleaned and put away?

clynn - Agree with what tsk said, your morning Fall pics do get you in the spirit. Wow, the Before & After pic  :o

Phyl - Pretty fall pics too!   I think that was a latte yesterday.

Lani - What a gorgeous good night pic from the Smoky Mountains!

karen - You still making out ok??

5:47 Yay Royals!  Maybe we will play them in the series Cal.  We are doing good too this year.  The Indians I mean.
Had a nice dinner of fish, asparagus, mac n cheese and salad at Karen's last night.  Then we watched Netflix with a Tom Cruise sci-fy movie. Where he died repeatedly. Then woke up in a pile of soldiers luggage and started his life over knowing what is goin to happen next.  This gave him the power to save the world.
Cal, I shop at Walmart and Drugmart and big grocery stores.  I am sorry I did not pay attention to hoe THE PLAN is affecting the smaller Mom an Pop stores.  I can see that THE PLAN is a problem for them as well. They are faced with paying premiums for smaller quantity buys as well as the increase their suppliers are forcing on them.  Many will not survive, because their customers will be priced out.  I see it in small town restaurants around here every Summer. I go traveling around on scenic trips for apples and produce etc.  I try to support the little guys as much as I can.  They are between a rock and hard place.
In at least two of the small towns I visit I have seen our old favorite businesses shut their doors.  It is sad, and I wind up going to some nasty old bar or a gas station with a few shelves of groceries, and a cooler. They have the necessities like pop, candy bars, chips, milk, and bread.  These little businesses are all there is left some small towns.  I love them too.
The good news is that I heard on TV some of the more respected talking heads have begun to point out the fact of CEOflation. So it is not just me.
Every time one of the candidate ads follow THE PLAN and tells me how I am suffering from high food and energy prices due to Biden I get angry and turn off the TV.  It happens a lot these days.  I am wearing out my clicker. LOL
OK Soapbox over and out for today. GO ROYALS!  GO INDIANS! and GO KAMALA!
Bye EV1 GBU, Ukraine, Israel, and all who are suffering.

Good Morning,

Hi LB, Ok on your work schedule. I didn't know about Jewish holiday.

Walking will be good for you I think. You've definitely had an emotional week. That's why I asked. Good the road paving is done tomorrow.

Your brother remains in my prayers definitely. God bless your father and girlfriend trying to get second opinion.

Hugs to you and prayers too.
