He assumes the tuna pose and calls Aero
Flash plucked a bird for Aero - and of course, I didnt see the exchange!

EGG?
March 25, 2021
Aero was perched on the side of the box pre-dawn
About dawn she went inside - she may have laid an egg
6.45 am Flash appeared and went inside
3 pm I am pretty sure there is an egg in there   :D

EGG? We just never know here - cant SEE

4.15 am  Flash brought Aero a treat.

I hope these kids have a brood this year.
I wasnt fast enough to get both inside together but got this - Aero on perch, Flash inside

April 2, 2021  Good Friday
Did she lay another egg pre-dawn today?

March 25
March 28
March 30
April 2

Thats judging by behaviors

5.15 am  Flash came in, looked behind Aero at his eggs.  Aero ignored him.  He seems happy and stays inside with her - seemed he is thanking her.  Good job, Babe! He stayed inside with her about half hour then left.  I am amazed!

6 am he arrived inside with brekky - and she MOVED for the first time in over an hour.
She took the prey and left, he laid down on eggs

EASTER EGG?
April 4, 2021  Easter Sonday
Did she lay another egg pre-dawn today?
4 am Aero perched on box, seemingly in a stupor
5 am Flash came in and laid on eggs

11.30 am  I am disturbed. Aero was OFF the eggs at 4 am when I got up.
An hour later she was still off.  Flash warmed them then both left.
For 5 hours no one was on the eggs very long.

I post this as a marker.  Til we see babies we know nothing.  *big sigh*
Both have been incubating, and Flash appears to decide he enjoys the eggs

Hatch yet?
April 27, 2021  dawn
Flash came in before sunrise with prey and offered it to Aero.
Aero posture on eggs appears different
Is an egg hatching?
The male typically brings prey to nest when he sees hatchling
He appears to be a happy Daddy - from what I can tell

May 7, 2021
7.45 am  Aero returns, Flash has been incubating.
She perchs outside, he stays inside.  Thats odd!
He is ALWAYS eager to be outta there in a flash (hence his name)

May 9, 2021 dawn
Flash flew in with prey and bumped Aero til she got up then he left - with the prey.

If this was a normal nest I'd say an egg is hatching, but this hasnt been a normal pair.

Flash DOES seem to like the eggs.

May 10, 2021 dawn
Flash flew in with prey
He appeared to be eating it inside by Aero - I thot he was going to feed her
Flash bumped around, stepped on her, crashed behind her  LOL!
I dont believe this!
Finally he left - leaving the prey with her

This is the FIRST brood - I think for both of them!
Flash knew prey was needed
He is adorable in his clumsy way

4 pm  3 chicks!

Flash is sooooooooo proud - and soooooooooooo happy

Peregrine Falcon banding
Racine, Wisconsin
Greg Septon
from the Peregrine Falcon Recovery Program attaches small, ring-shaped bands to the birds’ legs. The banding process is used to track their lifespans and how these birds migrate.

Subject: Re: Racine falcon

Only 3 falcons were banded. I didn’t band the 4th chick because it was 4-5 days behind developmentally. It's likely this is the chick that died.

----------

MY NOTE
June 8 sky and loza noted only 3 chicks.
* Apparantly the 4th died between banding May 28, 2021 and June 8 - dont know why

By the time falcon juvies are this color, they are past perching and running around the nestbox rooftop.  Their lack of interest in fledging is concerning.

5 am  2 of them perched briefly, but feel safer inside.

It appears to me one perched is female n the other perched is male

June 17, 2021  Then there were 2
I watched male almost fall
He looked like he wanted to go to an outer perch.
I didnt see him 'branch' to the roof.  Darn!

8:20 am
I watched awhile and I can see a flappy happy wing down there.
If they pull cam back we could see him.
Oh there he is!  He flew up to the roof ledge, flapped - down again.

The return
June 21, 2021
The boy who fledged returned cuz he misses his sisters!
Or to encourage them to fledge

The Alma cam, one of the fledged chicks returned to keep his sister company
The Elk River juvies have fledged but return to nestbox overnite.
All fledges dont return. Some do. Interesting study.

I am watching a loon cam now. 1 hatch yesterday!

E 57 and E 58 with the male behind them.  Nice lineup

E 58 FLEDGED
June 22, 2021
Female E 58 fledged

The male spent the night in the box with the girls again.
Evidently he's been showing the girls how its done.
He musta gone with 58 - then returned to keep 57 company

He will make a wonderful mate.
That has to be the care Aero and Flash gave him

This site doesnt give us info
For several reasons I wont watch it again unless they're on youtube.
I need DVR to go back!

I am surprised there is so much sibling loyalty.

E 58 fledged earlier.

3 pm I saw ALL 3 at the box AFTER E 58 had fledged - she returned.
1 inside - 1 on stick perch outside box -
one - where? down on roof ledge? or is there a lower stick perch we cant see

Flash and Aero did well.

Did 57 fledge?  No DVR so we dont know
Will any return?  unknown

6.37 am HARK!  What's that? A screaming juvie on ledge of roof.
Maybe the roof is branching, not fledging.  I dunno.
What do YOU think?
And another juvie appeared and joined her. Family loyalty

loza has a lotta pics on bcaw
This pic is loza's
