The Minnesota Power Clay Boswell falcons are nesting on a catwalk on the 200 foot level of Minnesota Power's Clay Boswell plant in Cohasset, Minnesota, next to the Mississippi River. Feel free to talk about them! We especially appreciate band IDs (band colors are fine if that is all you can get), egg laying times and dates, hatch times and dates, prey observations, and screen caps. If the cam is available, you can watch the falcons on this page: https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/minnesota-power-and-light-falcons/ (https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/minnesota-power-and-light-falcons/).

Fantastic!! I had to take Chester to the vet this morning and I had a doctor's appointment this afternoon, so finally sitting down since walking him and making supper. Thanks!!!!!!
-
I'm not seeing any on the cam today, was that a current egg picture?? You sure that isn't the one at Hibbard looking at the stuff in the nest box?
-
One day I noted the Redwing cam was dated wrong -
so who knows?
I try to be accurate - but life fools ya!
Have a blessed, peaceful weekend :)
-
Easy to do, we've all done it at one time or another. :)
-
They had a meeting of the minds about 10:30 and mom spent a lot of time sitting near the edge or on the lip of the nest box off and on today. She checked out the scrape a few times.

Boswel and Hassie 8)
April 9
6 am she inside
he perched outside on watch
7 am thot she laid egg but no. It will come today 8)
Hope you got some sleep Nora, condolences on whoever passed
No IR here and no sound - but 2 cams - at least thats nice
This pair seems to be very nicely bonded, judging by watching them.
It does not appear they have been named so lets name them.
How do you like
Male - Boswel
Female - Hassie (Cohasset)
I like names!
-
It fellow that died was a plant manager where Joe used to work before he retired, but thank you.
Yep she fooled me, but at least she's spending a lot more time in there. :)
-
She really looked like she was pushing a couple good pushes later this afternoon. Oh well..............see what morning brings.
-
EGG 1
April 12 dawn
An egg for Boswel and Hassie!
I know this is a poor dark pic - but - its an egg!
-
That's wonderful! I looked until it got too dark last night, she sure looked like she wanted too. Dad came around 6:00 and sat on the perch and she stayed in somewhat near the egg.

-
Nora, you got any guesses if Hassie is a young or old female?
I suspect she is older - but I am far from an expert
Bos is an attentive male.
-
I'm really not sure on any ages. AMY might have an idea. I'll see if I come up with anything.
-
BOSWELL EGG 2
April 14, 2021
Hassie laid another egg!
Once she got going, she wasted no time ;D
April 12 dawn
April 14 morning
-
I see they had some SNOW overnight.
Yep sometime overnight since dad got to help out this morning.

-
5.30 is between 3 and 6 - lol

Did you check the kestrel's 5 eggs?

I just ran across a memory in FaceBook that was a post about here on May 7, 2017 I thought was interesting.
"It was looking bad for a while. Don't know if there was a change in parents or what. They laid an egg earlier and no one took care of it. The other day mom laid a new egg and ate the old, bad egg. Now we have #2 and they're taking care of it!"
It kind of reminds me of what was happening at Great Spirit Bluff with an egg that was pretty much just left and then she got on a roll.
-
May 8
I only got one look at the eggs yesterday
and there were 4
EGGS
I dont see any pause in egg-laying

HATCH 1
May 19, 2021
9 am Mr and Mrs exchange places
Baby Boswell appears
1 pm cam 1 went out leaving NO CAM
Luckily it came back in like 10 minutes
Those other 2 eggs will open today too.
I kept an eye on Boswell the past 2 days.
I saw that pip - no progress
Wish they didnt use the word - cohasset - for Boswell and Hibbard
-
They're quite the team. At 8:54 dad brought food and mom went off to eat while he tended the new hatch.

#2 is hatching 1953. One parent came to the perch with supper, one parent was going out. Came back and was helping with the shell and I THINK that was dad and mom came in with the supper and he took off. Last look she was feeing the first one.

Nice to see them growing well and looking so good. They all eagerly eat. With a freeze warning up north overnight last night they've been snuggling a lot today yet.

I usually follow this nest real close and have to admit with sorting and packing and keeping up on the happenings at Great Spirit Bluff I hadn't been in here for a while. WHY DO WE ONLY HAVE THREE???? I've checked stuff from when it got light this morning through several feedings until 1642 and can't find a fourth one???
They're sure aggressive eaters, they're pulling it right out of dad's(?) mouth.
-
They're being pretty well-behaved!

Thanks. :( The other three seem to be doing very well though. That one must like "stomach sleeping".

June 13, 2021
I peeked at the Boswell kids.
All 3 look good - one snowy white puffball, 2 getting black feathers
Didnt save pic - too poor

June 26, 2021
One of them bonked another on the head with a wing
At this age those boxes look small
I see they have been banded
-
Still 3
June 27, 2021
One was flapping and tearing around, nearly knocking one off who was perched at the end.
I see a falcon tail at the far end of the stick
I think its raining - one juvie went out to shower
(s)he is very unsteady out there
Parent watching close
-
Fluff all over the place :)
-
FLUDGE
June 28, 2021
About 6 am one of the juvies slipped off and went down
It was at the outside edge of perch extending right from box
I thot he was trying for the roof - but went down
He is likely fine
The one female is just going NUTSO!

Thanks for info Shep & Good Luck AMY! I hope the little one is ok.

Hope all is well. :-\

June 30, 2021
One of the 2 left went out today, and flapped up a STORM!
He's having trouble perching, unsteady
-
July 1, 2021
The second juvie is out
Must be a ledge box left outside - he kinda oozed out of cam view
I expect he'll return
The girl (?) notices she's alone - and follows him
Was it 2 males and a female?
Was banding posted?
Neither fell on cam - I expect both back
meanwhile - NO ONE ON CAM
5.30 pm and neither has returned yet - I kept checking
:D 6 pm Dad shows up with bird, no one in box, he begins to peek around the side and one of the juvies *GRABBED!* it. hahahahaa - no pic - I'm tired
Closing cam for today
Next morning I checked DVR and both crawled around corner back into box
-
July 2, 2021
DAWN - BOTH juvies outside
Must be a ledge outside on both sides
I watched them live
First male (?) exited on RIGHT side
Female exited on LEFT
I expect they'll return
LAST NITE
5.30 pm and neither had returned yet
6 pm Dad shows up with bird, no one in box, he begins to peek around the side and one of the juvies *GRABBED!* it. hahahahaa - no pic of that
This morning I checked DVR and both crawled around corner back into box after I went offline
-
The RETURN
July 3, 2021
BOTH juvies outside all day, came in before dark
The female came in first and laid in wait for male
When he came in, first he stepped on her then he kissed her. ;D
The first fledge apparantly spent the night with these 2
He was on the outer perch
NONE of the 3 is that steady on the beams
Could there be a roof they are jumping down to? Was #1 down there all along?
Anyway - all 3 doing well
I scanned DVR about 3 pm - only Mom seen on cam ;D
HAPPY 4th everyone
-
3 Juvies
July 4, 2021
Dawn - Fierce wind
#1 stumbles out onto extended perch and flaps wildly
The wind so strong it tried to blow him backward
He hung on - just barely - did he even hang on with his beek?
#2 exits stage right - hopping onto ledge there
#3 still snoozin
-
July 5, 2021
They crawl out from behind both sides of box late evening
And leave at the CRACK of dawn
I wish Amy'd post banding reports on this forum
-
July 7, 2021
Dawn I didnt see anyone.
Either they have fledged or are spending the night on outside ledge.
In this final pic you see 2 juvies.
One has been wind sailing - wings out, drinking the breeze
The near one jumped and flew off strongly - clearly fledged
They are banded
-
July 9, 2021
Yesterday during the day the female scraped
No sign of juvies
