I have to give it to Mr. President, he is the Pole Vaulting Champion!  I am amazed he stayed on the side of the nest for a bit and didn't fall.

December 3, 2020
5 am  he is sleeping at the nest site!   :)
I've seen him off n on

8 am A young lady arrived. I'd say she's a 4 year old.
Black spot on her head and several in her tail. Mebbe I'll call her Dot.  *snicker*
At first he didnt seem interested.  She kept coaxing him and they mated in the nest.
She may never have mated before, she didnt appear that receptive.

After dark
They have both been around all day today - not cozy tho
She wants the nest but she doesnt appear to like mating

I love this cam

RUCKUS in DC
7.30 am  Feb 4, 2021 a juvie enters the nest.
He's there about an hour when The President returns.
Apparantly there's a fight and a lotta screaming and flying.
Juvie is driven off but NOT without resistence!
Thankfully our President won.

I'd guess Juvie is a 3 or 4 year old, maybe an offspring

Specks moves up to a branch.  Does she want to mate?
If so he isnt interested.
She returns to nest.
Specks is likely a 4 year old or barely 5 - upper tail very spotted.

TAKEOVER?
Feb 16
It appears that a nest takeover has occurred at the eagle nest in National Arboretum Washington D.C.  Our President and Lady havent been gone long enough that they may not return and oust the intruders.

I have seen our pair and several other eagles.  I thought Streak was female but he is a male.  And he and Specks appear to have taken the nest.

Both of this pair are immature.  They may be 5 year olds, but barely.  Not yet in full adult plumage.  Both have dark spots in their upper tails - hidden by wings unless they open their wings.

This pair is mating frequently.
These are my observations today.

Feb 17, 2021
I went to the kitchen to fix breakfast and heard screaming, so when I returned to computer I scrolled back.

2 eagles flew in, one chasing the other, landing screaming in the nest.  Specks screamed in a juvies voice.

The cam panned down to something - a fish? Not sure.

They had mated then he flew off.  After a bit she flew in the same direction.
Did she think he should have brought his fish to her?  I am unsure.

This male is also not Streak.  Our President?  A 3rd male?

Sorry folks, I'm a dummy today!   8)

5 pm  Crazylady Specks returns to nest vocalizing.

NATIONAL NEWS! ;D
March 2, 2021  WMAL reported on the DC Arboretum eagles!
A young hussy has taken over the nest and the President, and chased the First Lady off!  Biologists say the male may take a new mate if his mate doesnt produce young, and the nest has not had an egg since 2018.

That's hilarious!  An eagle pair makes national news!
Maybe I should call Specks - Monica.  At least its better than Specks.
What do y'all think?  Somehow it really fits.

March 4 Specks (Monica) was in the nest at 5 am.
She wasnt around much yesterday.
If she lays an egg she'll be Monica.  Calling her Specks at that point doesnt fit.  But she is no Lady.
