RRP announced that DN18 has cleared the fishing line, so great news.

Pics from this morning, now it's raining.

The eaglets are grabbing at bits of fish, with DN17 winning the fins and tails most often.  They can stand up and flap wings with some confidence, but are wobbly when stepping around in the nest.  Right on growth and development schedule!

Mystery carcass at DNN this morning, don't know when it was brought to the nest.  It's big, long leg bones, spine and thin ribs, longish grayish hair, sharp teeth and molars in closeups.  Hmmmm.  At first I thought is was a deer carcass.  Anybody have accurate ID and timing?

The eaglets are very interested in the carcass.  They try to eat stringy hairy pieces from DNF, and there's some dominance tusseling today.

Fish for lunch!  The eaglets are squeeing loudly when food arrives.  No more tender baby noises.  And even though they don't walk very well yet, they lunge across the nest to be first at the fish.  Growing up.   :)

More signs of development -- eaglets napping on opposite sides of the nest.

nanimal, do you mean resting separately for the eaglets?  Yes, at least the first I've observed it.  Building independence.

Yes, that's what I meant, thanks. They're moving right along!

The eaglets have darkened over the past 2 days as their body feathers grow in rapidly!
Foggy and wet this morning; DNF and MrN brought fish.

Rain for part of this morning.  DNF came to provide her mombrella.  Eaglets' wing and tail feathers are getting long!

At DNN this afternoon,  "We have the meats!"   Hawklet carcass about 1:00, defeathered and devoured.  Featherless pheasant carcass about 2:00 and a fish about 3:00.  About 6:00, MrN brought a partial pheasant adult carcass, partly feathery.  Both parents were busy feeding this richness of variety to the eaglets.  Eaglets are learning to eat bones of bird carcasses.  Yum.

More meaty pics.  For closeups, see the video rewind.  Nice scenes at dusk of DNF on the Ladder Branch and one eaglet standing up looking around, stretching wings.  Other eaglet is napping.

The eaglets look like juveniles today!  Their dark feathers cover all the baby down when they sit up quietly.  Amazing.
About 3:00, DNF perched on a high branch past the Love Tree with an adult opossum carcass.  Then she took it to the ground under the nest, and ate some of it.  About 4:00 she brought a small piece to the eaglets.

Not sure if any more possum bits got carried to the nest yesterday or this morning.  About 7:00 AM, the eaglets are self-feeding on leftover bones and carcass.  And flapping huge long eagle wings.

MrN brought a fish about 9:00, and one eaglet snatched it. MrN helped feed the fish, then carried away an old carcass.  Less rotting meat = fewer flies.
