2 HATCHS!
May 21, 2022
2.15 pm a shell appeared, Dad came in,
she had to leave and Dad saw his young. :-*
A lil wet chicklet!
4.30 pm Male has been in several times with a bloody rat, offers it. nope. takes it out again. :D
I see another shell - hatch #2
Dad returns with snack. This time she takes it and feeds BOTH screaming hatchlings.
They are a nice pair. He is sooo attentive!
He keeps checking on her, vocalizing
Exchanges are frequent.
I wonder if this is the same pair as last year.
Behavior is a little different.
They are sooo pretty

3 hatched within 4 hours

Just got some screen shots of the 3 hatches. Dad is very attentive. He incubated the hatches while mom took a stretch.
What are baby Kestrels called?

4 HATCHLINGS
May 22
-
4 Kestrettes. :D. I haven't checked on them this morning. Will do so when I sign off.
-
May 24
6.45 am she is feeding them
I clearly see 4 beeks
I dont know if 5th hatched yet but dont see egg
but all are too bunched to tell
-
Same here SHEP. I tried freeze framing and couldn't tell. She is still doing a lot of shimmying. Love the false eyes on the top of her head. She is so beautiful.
-
Not sure what is going on but mom seems very upset with older chick. She picked him up by wing and tossed him to the outside of her. The chick seems to have a sore on its wing. Mom just left to get food. Have not seen the male for awhile.
#5 egg has not hatched and is visible now. Maybe she is upset because male is not bringing food?
-
May 24
Oh dear
The male's been so attentive
I heard her calling him
she does seem upset at one chick
scrolled back, didnt see male
https://youtu.be/s-QgzEHIktA
2.30 pm male brot a snack
-
That many kids all at once and I'd probably be upset with all of them. ;)
-
LOL Nora, I hope she doesn't hurt the older chick. I am sure that they are just hungry. :(
-
Finally, I saw dad deliver food this morning. It must be raining very hard because he was soaking wet. Still can't tell if the 5th egg hatched. There were some egg shells in the corned that mom was eating with dad's food delivery. I am relived to see dad.
-
I saw Dad yesterday
If its raining its hard to get prey

Male Kestrel Arrives With Prey
May 26, 2022
https://youtu.be/1gI9cDgkWMo
-
Dad is working overtime. Am I bringing them too fast Mom? LOL
-
This afternoon the smallest of the 4 kestrels has been over against the left wall away from the female and the other three. When prey was brought in, the little one is not being fed at all. It was calling for food, but not making at attempt to move toward the others.
-
This morning I count 4 heads, and the smallest one is being fed. Surprised, but glad to see this.
-
May 30, 2022
Yes I saw her feed the 3, then the 4th afterward
I tried to see how Tiny got over there but cam was blacked out
Thats a weird cam
3.45pm All 4 together, being fed
Tiny doesnt look good
This situation is NOT normal
-
I will check in now and then but this is too hard for me to watch. :(
-
Its hard to watch yes
I check once a day
I dont think this is the same female as last year
-
I've been checking it a few times a day; things have looked "normal" with all four being kept together and fed when I've looked. I hope they're getting enough food.
-

The kids have their brown feathers but still cluster in a bunch
https://youtu.be/0X0PaWyQEG0
-
June 13, 2022
All 4 have brown feathers
They separated from the tight ball today
One was wingercizing
This still doesnt look normal
Hope Cornell has an eye on this
I have seen Dad at all

THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL

One of the 4 young up in the exit hole, I assume waiting for Mom to bring brekky
-
Two are out of the box this morning. Yesterday, Sunday June 19 I saw one in the exit hole, it may have gone then; I didn't see it last night, but all were up against the lower end of the box, so I wasn't sure.
-
They have been taking turns in the hole
June 20 at 10 am I see all 4 inside
-
SHEP, video of first two fledging.

2 Fledged this morning
June 20, 2022
Both flew cam right
1.30 Dad arrived with a treat which th 2 inside fought over
GLAD TO SEE DAD!!
4 pm #3 fledges
Thanks for video!!!
-
Great! I hope all of them do very well. And my thanks too for the video, jaspurr.
-
I checked the box early this morning, before 3am your time. #4 was huddled in the corner by himself. He spent the evening yesterday looking out the hole and calling. The live cam is off now. I hope someone rescued him this morning. I am thinking this was the youngest of the four and that he just wasn't quite ready to leave. SHEP/LINDA, if you hear any news good or bad please let me know.
-
The cornell outside cam works
I imagine baby fledged
-
I wish they would have left the inside cam on so that we could see an empty box. I will not subscribe to Facebook so I don't see the chat comments. Thanks SHEP
-
Baby left LATE June 20
He DID NOT spend the night alone
https://youtu.be/tnnJ4udxN2M
-
Unless I was looking at video highlights at 3am this morning, #4 was huddled in the corner of the box. All that matters is that he fledged. Thanks SHEP
-
BABY CLIMBED
Cornell posted this
They dated it June 21
so I am unsure when he left
https://youtu.be/Q3dve_dDytY
-
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) Thanks you SHEP. The video said he left this morning after 6 am. I was still asleep. LOL
-
Thanks for the video, Shep. Interesting to see the unusual type of exit by the little guy.
-
LINDA, remember when we were worried about #4 because he wasn't in the huddle when the first three were fed. He was the runt of the hatch and seemed so small compared to the other three. He had a lot of catching up to do and stuck in there. He is a brave little fighter and I am so happy that he is flying free. Any fledge is a good fledge. ;)
-
Jaspur, yes, I seriously didn't think we'd see him again after that night; the poor little guy looked so pathetic. He really did seem to make an effort to hang in there, and he did great. Hope to see them in the tree on the outdoor cam.

:)

Thanks SHEP. ;D ;D ;D
-
June 23
6.30- am I see a bird in that tree
too far to ID it
and as I type another bird flew by
10.30 am 4 kestrels perched on that straight out branch
-
Thanks, Shep! I saw one kestrel on that branch last evening; looked to be an adult.
-
Mousing kindergarten is in session. ;D. That is a nice spot to perch. Thanks Shep
LINDA, I missed this at first. Mom and Dad are perching on the top semi vertical branches. The branch that SHEP is talking about is a horizontal branch quite a distance below and to the right of the tree. There are two perched now.
