They are REALLY spooked out about the cam!

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but started watching the La Crosse falcons last year. I actually live a couple blocks away from them so can see them outside the nest also.
I am also learning about Peregrine Falcons, so interesting.
Anyway I was looking back at the cam just now and noticed that one egg is smashed. Is this accidentally done by the parents, does it happen often?

3 EGGS LEFT
April 27, 2022
There was a large gap between egg 2 and egg 3
One egg was apparantly hollow - she ate it - which is normal and good

So adorable Nora! I hope the little one gets enough food, he gets pushed down a lot. :D
-
It'll be fine. They make sure all get enough and the first day that one needs less than the other two. :)
-
May 20
Tiny #3 isnt getting enough. At first he was up and fighting, but kept getting missed. The big 2 lean over him and he's losing the strength to fight.
-
I watched the feeding from approx 11:30. It looked like the parent did like a lot of them do and get the bigger/older ones first and when they started settling down the little one got a meal. That one will also need less than the bigger two.
-
Waiting in line...

They are getting so big and getting their dark feathers. I was watching today and one of the older ones was really opening up their wings.
Will they get banded soon?
-
I'm assuming since RRP usually bands at that site they won't be banded this year. It was decided not to with all the threat of Avian Flu.

Sorry it's been a few days. So they normally go out on the railing and then eventually they will hop to the top of the nest and then to the ledge of the bank.
Sunday we could not see one so walked over and it was below in courtyard like area of the bank. We had to stay under the near by parking lot or the parents hollered at us.
Last night all 5 falcons were on the top of the bank or in the nest. This morning I think the 1st to fledge has been practicing its flying, thought I did not getting any pictures.
Photos is the falcon that was in the courtyard area, with one showing the nest at the top and falcon below.
They are so fun to watch!!!
-
Ah, thanks
good pics
-
Oh wow it would be so neat to be across from them! Thanks for the updates!!!
-
This mornings news...
I'm assuming the youngest in on the railing waiting to fly. And on the ledge below I believe is a parent? The other parent is at his normal perch, the highest point of the building. And then the other 2 chicks are on the ledge hopping around! :D
-
GREAT ARROWS - THANKS!
-
I was afraid you wouldn't see all of them, it took me a bit to find the chicks on the ledge.
-
Great photos, and thanks for your time spent doing this and giving updates; it's super to see them out of the box!
-
It is so great having you across from them!!!!!
-
Thanks everyone! I have been obsessed with the nest since last summer, our 1st summer in this apartment. And enjoy sharing my excitement!
Yesterday I watched (I think) two of the chicks flying, I'm so amateur, but you could tell they were clumsy and one was diving after the small birds but then had to abort! Also two falcons were following each other, not sure if it was the chicks or one adult and one chick. I was not fast enough to try to catch any of this.
This morning was almost an identical of yesterday morning. All 5 seen on the building. This afternoon I could not find any of them, but now one is in the nest according to the cam.
-
The parent drops prey for the chicks to catch
-
It's raining here this morning. The family is still here, 2 chicks on the building ledge and one in the nest (but nest cam seems to be down). One adult is sitting on the side on an antenna, one of its favorite perches.
-
I haven't seen reports like yours since back when Kodak in Rochester, NY had all their watchers when the young fledged. Again thank you!! Back in 2004 I was looking for my first digital camera and pulled up the Kodak website because that name was the most familiar and saw the link to their cam. That got me hooked. Later on I found RRP's and they were more in my area, but no one was in the nest box by the time I found it, but started out the next spring. I also found a foaling cam and have met some long time friends through that, in fact the couple that were raising the horses were in our wedding. They've since retired and he passed away a few years ago, but she's still alive. My dad wasn't alive anymore and Kenny walked me down the aisle and gave me away and she stood up for me. These cams open up a whole new world for people. When you get to meet someone from the forums it's like you've always known each other and get real live friends from other areas of the US and other countries.
-
So nice Nora!
-
All five falcons are still here. The kids laps around the bank have gotten much bigger and I believe they have ventured out. But I will still catch all five sitting in various locations of the bank. One of the parents favorite hangout is at the church steeple, and I think the kids have begun to sit there also. It's about 4 blocks from the bank.
-
We are all turning GREEN at your private view! ;D
YES, EVERYONE HAVE a SAFE WEEKEND!
-
I've been meaning to post for weeks on the La Crosse falcons. There are still 2 sitting at their usual posts, the bank including the nest and the church. I get so excited when they are still here!!!
