I have to give it to Mr. President, he is the Pole Vaulting Champion! I am amazed he stayed on the side of the nest for a bit and didn't fall.

NEW FEMALE - YOUNG
November 25, 2020
It seems the new female is young, possibly age 4
Thats is breeding age, not a juvie or a sub.
She is a beauty - is she one of the juvies who have visited in the past, or even an offspring?
I didnt pay attention til this morniing

Dot
December 3, 2020
5 am he is sleeping at the nest site! :)
I've seen him off n on
8 am A young lady arrived. I'd say she's a 4 year old.
Black spot on her head and several in her tail. Mebbe I'll call her Dot. *snicker*
At first he didnt seem interested. She kept coaxing him and they mated in the nest.
She may never have mated before, she didnt appear that receptive.
After dark
They have both been around all day today - not cozy tho
She wants the nest but she doesnt appear to like mating
I love this cam

Dec 5 both in nest, singing to the dawn. :D
I am unsure whether the female was Dot or another.
They flew off.
noon one returned - regal snow white head :)

Saw both, I think this is a 4 year old - unsure
Male tried to mate but she didnt appear receptive
I report - you decide. ;D
-
December 18, 2020 dawn
Have you ever seen an eagle say -
NUTS TO THIS!
Well, it SNOWED yesterday in DC, including in the nest. The President landed in the nest, poked around, moved a branch, and clearly said - nuts to this stuff!
-

SPECKS
January 5, 2021
This nest is on a busy flyway - so many visitors
Today a juvie visited - maybe a 3 year old
STREAK
I saw Streak again Jan 3 - he was there an hour before dawn
The regular male has no streak down his chest - unless he was in a fight?
Dot must have just passed thru. My guess is she wont breed til next year.
I saw her a few weeks ago

RUCKUS in DC
7.30 am Feb 4, 2021 a juvie enters the nest.
He's there about an hour when The President returns.
Apparantly there's a fight and a lotta screaming and flying.
Juvie is driven off but NOT without resistence!
Thankfully our President won.
I'd guess Juvie is a 3 or 4 year old, maybe an offspring
-
Feb 7, 2021 a NEW juvie enters the nest, probly 4 years old
adding the juvie from the other day here too
-
Specks
Feb 11, 2021
There is our Lady - and at least 2 other females hanging around.
It seems to snow daily.
* Sometimes I can get into this forum - sometimes I cant.

The President and his Lady have both been around today, workikng on their nest.
5 pm There's Streak!

-
Our Lady at dawn
Feb 15, 2021
Specks
Just before noon Specks showed up.
Streak is hanging around the edges, not at nest today.
Specks busied herself in the nest awhile.
The President shows up (dont think its Lady)
He signals submission and they work nest together.
-
Feb 15
They both move a big stick
Specks moves up to a branch. Does she want to mate?
If so he isnt interested.
She returns to nest.
Specks is likely a 4 year old or barely 5 - upper tail very spotted.
-
EAGLE MANIA! 3 females!
Feb 15
Something is wrong
I just posted 6 pics and NONE SHOW
o now they show!
Around 2 pm the President MATED with Specks in the nest!
Around 3 pm they mated again - on a branch.
Streak is perched out by the buildings.
About 5 pm BOTH Streak and Specks in nest.
Specks kept pulling Streaks feathers and nipping til Streak nipped back!
WHERE IS LADY?
Must be President Clinton! 8)
Will we have a nest with 4 parents?
What a mess
2 pm I couldnt post - I couldnt even log in!

TAKEOVER?
Feb 16
It appears that a nest takeover has occurred at the eagle nest in National Arboretum Washington D.C. Our President and Lady havent been gone long enough that they may not return and oust the intruders.
I have seen our pair and several other eagles. I thought Streak was female but he is a male. And he and Specks appear to have taken the nest.
Both of this pair are immature. They may be 5 year olds, but barely. Not yet in full adult plumage. Both have dark spots in their upper tails - hidden by wings unless they open their wings.
This pair is mating frequently.
These are my observations today.
-
Feb 17, 2021
I went to the kitchen to fix breakfast and heard screaming, so when I returned to computer I scrolled back.
2 eagles flew in, one chasing the other, landing screaming in the nest. Specks screamed in a juvies voice.
The cam panned down to something - a fish? Not sure.
They had mated then he flew off. After a bit she flew in the same direction.
Did she think he should have brought his fish to her? I am unsure.
This male is also not Streak. Our President? A 3rd male?
Sorry folks, I'm a dummy today! 8)
5 pm Crazylady Specks returns to nest vocalizing.
-
Feb 20, 2021
Well, Specks is hanging around a lot - and a male.
It does NOT appear to be Streak.
I dont know if its our President.
There seems to be a 3rd eagle around.
The male keeps bringing sticks to place round the nest.
More grasses brought in to cover the snow / ice in the nest.
-
Feb 25, 2021
Both doin a lot of mating.
The kid has the nest.
The 2 of them drove off a 3rd eagle on 2 diff days.
She takes his fish but hasnt given him an egg
-
Streak sighted
Feb 28, 2021 rainy day, gloomy
Streak was spotted on a distant branch. He has lost half of the stripe down his chest.
An adult female was spotted in the nest briefly.
-
NATIONAL NEWS! ;D
March 2, 2021 WMAL reported on the DC Arboretum eagles!
A young hussy has taken over the nest and the President, and chased the First Lady off! Biologists say the male may take a new mate if his mate doesnt produce young, and the nest has not had an egg since 2018.
That's hilarious! An eagle pair makes national news!
Maybe I should call Specks - Monica. At least its better than Specks.
What do y'all think? Somehow it really fits.
-
March 4 Specks (Monica) was in the nest at 5 am.
She wasnt around much yesterday.
If she lays an egg she'll be Monica. Calling her Specks at that point doesnt fit. But she is no Lady.
-
March 6 evening
Cam spotted Stripe in the tree back by the buildings.
I wonder why he's hanging around
-
November 10, 2021
Cams are live. I heard rustling, what is it?
Squirrels mating - they nest inside the eagles nest.

November 23, 2021
The pair are working on the nest
They come at dawn and leave before IR goes off
-
November 27, 2021
In addition to working on the nest more,
they are now calling the sun.
About 6.30 am today the first faint light began to appear in the sky, and our eagle pair sang and sang to encourage it to appear. ;D
This screen shot is from several years ago - same cam / nest = DC

FEATHERBEEK
November 29, 2021
Both still working on nest, bringing in stix,
landing with a LOUD CRASH :D
Sometimes they beek each other
Catch them at dawn, they day they spend God knows where
-
December 6, 2021 Monday
The eagles took SONday off - saw little of them all day
Now today, Monday they are both here, leaving and returning with large thick heavy sticks, then trying to wrestle them into place
-
GRASS
December 10, 2021
She's bringing grasses now
He is bringing branchs
Its rather interesting, even humorous to watch them place odd branchs
-
December 11, 2021
Sometimes those branchs wont SNAP off when he passes by and grabs! ;D
YES, he actually hung there a moment. Branch said - nope!
I had to DVR back to catch this!
-
NEST TAKES SHAPE
December 16, 2021
They are still around at dawn but gone most of the time during the day.
She brot in a load of grasses again today. Its lookin good!
They are beeking each other - it looks to me like disagreements.
-
MORE GRASSES
December 20, 2021
She's bringing more n more grasses
Its rather interesting, even humorous to watch them place odd branchs and fight, she pecks at him a lot.
She has dark tip tail - and dark spots higher up, you see when her wings are out. I am unsure if that means she is a 4 year old, or not. Anyone?
-
Dec 21
They fight a lot Today I saw one of them dump a large heavy stick overboard. She clearly DID NOT want it. He flew off in a huff
-
Dec 23
Eagle placing a long distance call ;D
-
DC is BUSY, EAGLE is WATCHING
December 24, 2021
This is the second time I've seen the eagle here.
He must be watching the trains go by, many of them, and busses
MERRY CHRISTmas!
May you have ALL your needs met!
-
December 30, 2021
This nest is lookin good, soft straw, nice rails
mating going on
-
December 31, 2021
I click in before dawn - and see they spent the night in the same spot -
but CLOSER TOGETHER than they have been! :)
