Here is a little video of SOAR's work with the Iowa DNR and the Osprey Reintroduction Project that was completed this year. Many thanks to our dedicated volunteer Vic who takes care of the osprey every year that they are placed at Swan Lake State Park which is run by Carroll County Conservation Board. It is hoped that these endearing birds will imprint on Iowa and come back to nest. Also thanks to Vic for pictures of the birds as they made their first outings into the world. You will see the first bird take flight, and fly like it has flown every day of it's life.

SOAR assisted the Iowa DNR with reintroduction of osprey into the state. In July, SOAR volunteers and DNR staff went to Minnesota and with the help of Minnesota Power staff, collected osprey from active, healthy nests. Birds were taken care of, examined, and vaccinated by SOAR. Birds were placed in hack towers in Clear Lake and at Swan Lake State Park. In the video, the tower doors open at Swan Lake and the first bird does not hesitate to soar into the sky. The birds hang around and are fed daily by Vic, a SOAR volunteer, until they start their way to Central America for the winter. Thank you Vic for all of your work keeping these birds fed!
