Yesterday was so windy, NASTY weather, it actually blew him off the perch.

3 falcons LOOKED like they were laying today!

WOODMAN, Omaha
There are 2 Omaha nests, I am not following the other but bcaw is.

sky wrote
Very, very serious situation at Woodmen. Mom is either sick or injured badly. Eggs are scattered. She appears to be alive..but has not moved in the past few hours...even when dad came. This is not looking good.

Jean, from Facebook has contacted Woodmen and DNR and will continue to monitor via cam.

Woodman Omaha April 20
6 am  Male goes into the box, spends some time in there - too dark to see much.  The snapshots show he's been around for 2 hours.

Omaha Falcon Chayton dies
Apr 19, 2022 Woodmen Life, Omaha Nebraska
- We are saddened to announce that our female peregrine falcon, Chayton, passed away on Monday evening. At this time, we don't know a definitive cause, but Nebraska Game will be testing her body. Raptor Conservation Alliance took Chayton's remaining eggs to incubate them in hope of any hatching.

The female falcon Chayton died Monday.  She's been there since 2018.  While raptors are not as prone to avian flu as other types of birds, some raptors have been known to succumb to the virus.

Chayton’s mate, Mintaka, has been seen around the nest.  He was her devoted mate, and kept vigil at her side as she passed somewhere over the rainbow.  Perhaps she joined other falcons we knew en route.

bcaw - from fb ...
Chayton, the female peregrine falcon that died April 18 in a nest box on the WoodmenLife Tower in downtown Omaha tested positive for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. HPAI is a highly contagious virus that spreads easily among birds and has been detected in both domestic poultry and wild birds. Peregrine falcons’ diet consists mostly of other birds, and the falcon may have been exposed to HPAI from its prey.

7.30 am  A female joins Mintaka (?) in the nestbox for the ritual bow dance
She is so big I wanna call her Large Marge

Yesterday I watched male bring one dressed prey after another to the box. When Marge didnt come take it, he ate it himself.

OROZCO vs MINTAKA
Another male, identified as Orozco, has been spending some time at the Tower with an unidentified female. Orozco Was the nesting male at the Mutual of Omaha building in 2017 - 2021

Mintaka, Chayton’s mate, is unhappy with this. He has also been spotted at the Tower. Peregrine falcons tend to be very territorial, and Mintaka has made it clear to Orozco that he won’t give up the Tower easily.

Although it is not clear if Orozco and this female will be staying, we have directed the Falcon Cam to the north-facing nest, which they seem to favor.
