Oh good, now I know for sure it was a rabbit!  I came in when it was down to fluff blowing around and the end of the meal.   The one left and the other one came to pick at the bones for a few minutes.

It's still my impression that it was Dad who had the rabbit, and wasn't interested in sharing with Mom - but it's been my general impression that males bring food to the nest and if the female is around she'll grab it - presumably part of their bonding, and the male's way of proving he can support the family she's planning to lay (to put it in slightly humanized terms).  I'm not sure that I've seen a male not give up food when a female arrives - or a female calling the male to a nest while she has food - unless perhaps she wanted backup.

Any idea who was who, Nora?  I have more pictures of the one with the prey, but already posted those that gave the best look at both.  Thanks!

I'm quite certain it's Mom in the nest at present with a snack.  I can see the dark spot on her head that I used to identify her last year.  She also has prey - I think a gray bird, but am not sure what it is, other than gray and a bit smaller than the part of the rabbit that was there earlier.

She'd now on alert, but seems to be eating quietly (I've had the sound off for part of the time, but her movements didn't indicate any major calling).

When I came in on it someone was finishing the meaty part and I thought it was mom and that dad showed up and picked at the bones after she left.  Looking at your pictures I want to say it was dad mantling the rabbit.  It seemed to me that between mom and dad you could usually see more white of the tail on one of them, but I can't remember which was which at the moment, I did see some good shots from the back before the one left.

Great pics, Judy and Nora! Really happy to see them since I can't be online during daylight hours at the moment -- I'm glad the cam has infrared, but haven't caught any eagles at the nest yet.

Want to add my same comment to Alison's----haven't had much "look at" time, and am so glad to see someone posting pictures of them.  Thank you, and
 Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Did anyone notice when the second eagle came in to eat....picked up perhaps a part of the rabbit...not sure, but it really looked the eagle was eating a small snake! Really had trouble trying to eat it, couldn't swallow it whole, and had trouble holding the piece in it's talons and trying to rip it apart. I'm not quite sure if the eagle finally downed it or left it in the nest.

I had to see if it was snowing more in Decorah than at home, it's just lightly coming down.  One was in the nest while the other was in a tree a ways away (not black lump in the upper right section of the picture) before it circled around and came to the nest to help pick through and grab scraps.

P.S.  They're also working on the nest today again.  When I went back from posting this it was busy carting one around and arranging it  Cheesy

Wow Amy, that's great in the nestviewer http://www.raptorresource.org/falcon_cams/index.html for the eagles at Decorah!  I use the nestview in streaks, lots of times just use a direct link for nests and just found it.

For anyone new to the nestviewer, you can hover your mouse over the bar between the list of names and the cam views and drag it over to enlarge the viewing area.

Thanx everyone involved, Nora

This doesn't do the weather justice, that snow is really coming down and boy is it blowing.  We're under a blizzard warning that continues through most of Wednesday.  It's been snowing like crazy and blowing all evening.  Sure wonder what it's going to look like in the morning..........and yes that snow is blowing sideways  Cheesy

What a morning, snow has pretty much let up, but it's blowing enough you'd think it was still snowing.  A lot of plows were called off here in NE Iowa and are still under the blizzard warning because of the winds.
