For some reason this particular type of bird fascinates me.  Maybe in part because they are so unusual and ominous looking.  They are sort of  the "grim reaper of birds".   It does sadden me that we humans feel the need to put in cages animals that need to roam free.  I suppose there will be wide spread panic now in search of this magnificent creature and someone will feel the need to destroy it because they see it as being some sort of threat.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that it can be captured successfully and returned all be it to it's "unnatural habitat".

I can understand the need to have in captivity animals on the verge of extinction so that we may try to breed them in hopes of raising the probability of a species' survival but I think it's so cruel to warehouse these animals for no good or justifiable reasons other than our own selfish amusement and curiosity.

IMHO...

I noticed in the article that the vulture came from a Pittsburgh zoo to the Jacksonville zoo in 2006.   I hope he will be OK until they can find him.  He may not know of the dangers in the wild.

I am really intersted in following this story so if anyone is from Florida and has any info or if anyone at all hears of its capture and safe return please update!

I just love all God's creatures small and tall, and I also love a happy ending so I do hope that is the case here.
