Feels strange sitting here with it pitch dark outside looking at these lovelies in the sunlights of Sidney. The parents seen to take shifts of from one to one and a half hours each nesting on the eggs. Changes are generally made rather quickly, but sometimes dad seems to come and be the alert one as mom rearranges nearby nesting material (Picture 2). The gently moving of the eggs to get them just right and then the slight wiggle to cover and protect them. How gentle all the actions for such large birds.

They are gorgeous birds.  And it's amazing how much they remind me of the bald eagle, except for their coloring. But may things are similar in how they tend the nest etc. Their coloring is different and they may be slightly smaller in adulthood.   But gorgeous birds, it's just hard to follow real time since we are on the other side of the world and day it night and night is day.

I love your screen shots Alice so that we can enjoy some of the time while we are asleep. That said I don't know when you sleep.  You are watching all  of these birds across the world.  I am glad. selfishly, that you do because I get these great views at my fingertips in an instant.

Again, beautfiful birds and they will be my next obession once the Decorah cam turns dark and NX is released.

Basic information regarding these beautiful birds can be found at
http://australian-animals.net/seaeagle.htm

They have been switching incubation duties about every 60-90 minutes. But just now, crabby mom, kept calling for Dad to come back. She does seem to be a bit bossy. He was back at the nest within a half hour; looked around, carefully walked around her and seemed to check things out. No sounds were exchanged (no camera sound, but no beak movement). They both checked the eggs and she snuggled back in. unfortunately as hard as he seemed to maneuver around her, he accidentally stepped on her tail. She readjusted and settled back in as he left.
I am just in love with all the white on these magnificent birds.

I believe they were on the threatened list in Victoria, Australia.  Are they still categorized as threatened?

It is considered "protected status" under Australia's federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/epabca1999588/

It is considered "threatened" under Victoria's Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act (1988), with possibly fewer than 100 breeding  pairs remaining in the state

Sea eagles are not true scientific eagles but are really giant Kites. They are the second largest of the Australian Raptors having wing spans of close to 7 feet.

Bald eagles are not considered  to be "true eagles" either. They are in the family of sea eagles
or fish eagles. There are several species in that group, e.g. the African Fish Eagle, the Sea Eagle,
the White-tailed eagle. They are related as are different species in the falcon family; e.g  peregrines,
prairie falcons, gry falcons. Same family, different species. Golden eagles, steppe eagles, and that family are called "true" eagles.

You know, I have the darndest time getting my mind wrapped the idea of the size of these bird. They remind my of Sea Gulls, and to think they are 36 inches long with 7 foot wingspans. Good grief!
Dad just came back for the change in shift and mom is still rearranging the nesting materials.

Hello friends!  I am the Ustream Moderator for the Sydney Sea Eagle cam, and welcome you to join us for great chat each night!  Sydney is 14-17 hours ahead of the USA (14 EST, 15 CST, 16 MST, 17 PST) so night time viewing is the best time to get the Aussie cam during the daylight hours on the nest.

I also welcome you all to join our Facebook group "Sydney Sea Eagle Cam (USA)" for great up-to-date info on the nest, and to read about the differences between mom and dad with some side-by-side photos.

Hope to see you there!

Screen capture late afternoon of Mom and Dad trading off nest duties.  Dad is the smaller one on the left, Mom is larger and is on the right. Mom also sports more feather fluff on her pantilooms!

Well, I guess I'm completely hooked.  BEAUTIFUL BIRDS!  Already urged everyone to donate on behalf of this pair.  Do not mind stop-motion cam, or lack of sound.  There will be babies soon - keeping talons crossed.  Thanks Alice for your help!  I love that they are in such a super natural setting.

I believe this is actually the second nest for this pair. Heavy rains and wind toppled the old nest just before the last brood had really totally fledged. They were still returning to the nest for feedings, and mom and dad were accommodating. Then, all of sudden, and they have a movie of the event, the tree just fell over completely. When the young'ens returned they were more than  baffled and landed on nearby trees. They really weren't ready for this and the parents really couldn't continue their "training" and feeding. The family flew off one day and no one really knows what happened.
Sea Eagles HATE noise and are easily disturbed by it. This nest is located in a large fenced in area away from humans, construction, and traffic.

If you are so inclined there are two Facebook sites in support of these sea-eagles:

There is one for the US that has postings and such.  You can post pictures and information that doesn't need to be approved before you post.  You do need to request to join the group, but you have to do it from your Facebook Account.  I requested to join and it took them maybe 30 minutes to accept me.  That would be this group:

The official Facebook site for the Sydney sea-eagles is here:
