Are the barns and house we see on the Decorah Eaglets cam part of the fish hatchery or a private farm?

I understand they are private property.  The cottonwood tree the eagles are on is on their property, they allow RRP to use the building and videotape.   The site has pictures and maps of the surrounding area.

The fish hatchery is on the south side of the road and the property owner where the eagles are is on the north side.  The farm with the horses is on the north (other side) of the creek going north from the eagles.

This is from Google Earth. The two main roads are Siewer Spring Road, runs roughly N-S; cross road is Trout Run, runs roughly E-W. The tree is located on Siewers along with the farm we see so often. The tree is actually on the farmer's property. There is a creek which runs along Trout Run, under Siewers. This creek runs along the road right next to the trunk of the tree. The Hatchery is on the south side of Trout Run, south of the tree. There are private homes along Trout Run. You often see them when Bob pans the camera. Bob has a "shed" which is actually the garage at one of those private homes.
Earlier this year when the cam faced NE people kept talking about the lights and wondering what they were. Probably people driving along Trout Run or pulling into homes along Trout Run
When Bob pans now he frequently shows the red roofed home just ESE toward the fish hatchery.
I am attaching two other ground level pictures taken by Randy Haugen and Cheryl Burns which show more.

It's wonderful that the homeowner(s) are so tolerant and cooperative, and they deserve thanks for that.  There is a local eagle pair here near a nature learning center where the land owner has denied access, so no cameras are able to be used there.

Thank you so very much for answering my post.  This is a very beautiful area as I live in central Oregon, Bend and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these beautiful eagles raise their young.  We do have many Bald and Golden Eagles out here but the opportunities to observe them is small let alone rearing their young.  I wish to thank all of you whom have made this possible and hopefully next year I'll be able to watch this again.  Being 70 yrs young, I have lived in the middle of nowhere and truly love nature and wish all humans would take a step back and get a better understanding and appreciation for all the beauty that does surround us.

Thank you again,

actually the tree is on private property it belongs to the house (it's brown) can not be seen from the pictures. it is tucked back behind some trees. there are several houses along the road. the farm/small acreage is up the hill from the road we usually see. All as you said, across from the fish hatchery. Does this help ?

You know we are always thanking Bob, Amy, mods, etc.  We all need to thank the homeowners too - they allow Bob to use their garage and allow us to watch their animals and 24 hour survielance of the farm yard.  Thanks to the family!!

Mounting up on wings like eagles....

Attached is a zoom of a parcel map of Winneshiek County where the Decorah eagles' nest is located.  Blue lines demarcate different properties.  As you can see, the nest is on a private lot (not a farm) that borders on the small stream Trout Run.  The nest tree overlooks the Run, and is not on a road but is at the back of the property.

The shed where Bob's computer, camera, etc. are all located is on the adjacent lot (also not a farm) to the east, where the house is at the intersection of Trout Run and Siewers Spring Rd.

The hatchery is to the south of the nest tree and house properties, across Trout Run Rd.  I've marked the maple tree where all the eagles love to perch, just to the east of the hatchery.

Across the stream is the property where the barn is located.  It's not really a farm.  You can see farmland on the edges of this zoom: to the east of Siewers Spring Rd. across from the property where the barn is, and around the hatchery.

Great map, Elf.

Now if everyone who chats this nesting season will look at and study it.   Smiley Maybe it can be posted at an obvious place near the chat on UStream so many repetitive questions won't be asked once the eagles start their new family this year.

Elf, thanks for the little blue lines on the map.  Finally, I've a better understanding of who owns the tree.

I thought the tree was on the same property as the shed and the house we'd see when Bob panned the cam.  I can see now I was wrong.  Smiley

And I thought the property where the barn is was a farm.  Wrong again. I can see now it's a piece of property with acreage for the horses and other buildings.    Smiley

Geez, I was wrong more times than I was right.  Smiley

Please keep the map for next year.

The map is attached as a jpg file, so you can save it to your computer for your own use!   Cool

Oh, and here's the web site with the full parcel layout of the entire county.  It works kind of like a Google map, you can zoom in, add or subtract layers, mark it up, etc. (thanks to Pagent for sending me this link):

I was just looking at this perspective map of all the locations of the areas we are so familiar with on this land in Decorah.  My mind is blown by how intelligent Dad Decorah is in choosing precisely this spot for his nest.  No wonder the clutches/hatchlings/eaglets/juvies have been so successful.
