Well, I can take this off my bucket list. I went through the previous threads searching for information on this Blair Nest. I found references scattered throughout many other threads. So, I took the thread name, the date, forum member, and the comment. I hope I didn't miss anyone and apologize if I did. Then we
can get on with the current information on this great pair. Larry is so handsome.

Could it be
We are a third and fourth grade class from Blair, Wisconsin. Our teacher wrote a grant to have a camera installed above a Bald Eagle\'s nest near our school. Lucy and Larry\'s nest sits above a trout stream in a cotton wood tree, about 60ft off the ground. You can read more about the project history under the pages tab on the home page. Thank you for visiting.

I can't believe I did this, but I went over there again this afternoon. Bob sent me another location that was closer to the town of Taylor, but only about 4 miles from where I was yesterday. I needed to find out what that big quarry-looking thing was on the map, because she was located very close to it today. It is a sand quarry. If you go to
http://www.badgerminingcorp.com/modules/web/index.php/id/1 you will find out all about it. Their wildlife management mission is especially impressive. When I turned down County Road W, heading that direction, there were two juvenile eagles chasing each other. One would perch in a tree and wait for the other to catch up and then they would both take off again. I watched for only about 30 seconds and they took off into a wooded area. I tried to use my binoculars to look for an antennae, but by the time I could spot them in the air they were too far away. I drove around the area, and discovered that D1's location was now in the Vosse Coule Wildlife Area, run by the Wisconsin DNR. As you can imagine, it was beautiful, with rolling hills and a creek running through it. There were a lot of trees and tall grasses.
I stopped at the little store in Taylor, and talked to the woman who worked there. I am very impressed with Alice's research! She is right on! The woman told me about an eagle's nest cam that is run by the students at the elementary school. Of course, I was excited to find out about that! I know I'll send their school a copy of our book!
I am thrilled to share this information with anyone who is interested. My focus in life has always been to teach and learn. One more side note: Today I saw the third horse!

Alice... thanks so much for your research into the Blair eagle nest, and thanks to Sue also for confirming this "from the ground". What a wonderful educational experience these kids are having. Though unfortunately, it seems as though Larry and Lucy are not the model Eagle parents that our Decorah Mom and Dad have been. Hopefully next year they will do better.

Alice: thanks for the research on the Blair school. I read all the articles you posted. It was so great seeing what the kids were doing and how excited they were. Hopefully this coming year, Lucy and Larry will have babies for the kids to watch.
Sue: thanks for sharing your second day looking for D1. Reading about your seeing the 2 juveniles chasing each other made me smile. I can hope one of them was D1, but if not, I can hope she has found a friend to play chase with too.
Sounds like you had another wonderful day. And again, thanks for sharing it with us.

Sue, great photos!
Alice, that is so awesome! What a wonderful teacher those kids have.
If you do nothing else, please read the history of this eagle cam and this fantastic teacher.
http://eagles4kids.com/about-project/I wonder if Amy or Bob could call him and help him out with some of the technical aspects of the camera, IF, and microphone.

Sue and Alice, you are true Sherlock Holmes!!! What a coincidence that Sue found that camera and Alice did the investigation adding another dimension to our eagle watching and to find this fabulous teacher instilling the love of nature to the next generation. GOOD WORK!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving :-)
Sue - Thanks for taking the time to look for D1 and telling us about the trip, just thinking that one of those juves might be our Diva brings a smile to my face. Its great to know she's so close to the nest and doing well makes me so proud of her, would be great to see her drop by at the nest if mom and dad were out and about lol. The cute raccoon got to take a snooze on the nest (which had me holding my breath for its safety, if mom or dad charged in to chase it off) then maybe our Diva might have a slim chance lol. I personally love being around horses so I can relate to D1's choice :-) and as mentioned it is imprinted as a good thi0ng, but also horses have a great sense of danger, so good to have around for a "heads up" situations.
Alice- great research to find out who had that nest cam, hopefully that eagle pair will have success with the next hatching.
Looking forward to our new eagle family.

Thanks Alice for the latest posting and to all who have contributed to the lastest sightings in the area. Love the story about the school in Blair.

Blair is a town of just over 1200 person population. How wonderful to have a teacher like Mike. One of the students' projects is to track the location of all their "likes" on FB. I would really like to see them have some fun considering the number of Decorah chatters and forum members.
I posted some info this AM on their FB page and have already had a reply from the teacher, Mike. Why not go there and do it too? Having been a teacher I can just imagine how much fun the kids will have tomorrow if they get a lot of "likes" and can do some plotting.

D1 has been spending the last few days near Blair WI. A teacher there set up a camera to watch their eagle pair, Larry and Lucy.
http://eagles4kids.com/eagles4kids-nest-camera/Sue spotted the nest during her travels there this weekend looking for D1

Fantastic Sue!! I'm glad to hear there are lots of juvies over that way. As soon as you mentioned Blair and the eagle nest it made me wonder if you had followed that one last year. I'm thinking the National Eagle Center worked with them on the cam. I tried watching it last year, but a lot of times couldn't get it. I've wondered different times if that was actually Lucy that came back or a new gal.
I love the wing tips on that adult flying that you got the picture of!! Nora

Sue, Many thanks for sharing your adventure so very well. I almost felt that I was along with you!
Alice, Many thanks to you for sharing your research efforts! Kudos to those students and their great teachers for making eagle watching such a rewarding learning experience -- may the keep it up!

When I looked at the map I realized that D1 is exactly in the location that I pulled over on my first trip to watch eagles flying together! She is very close to the Blair nest! It is located on Twinde Lane, at the first set of trees as you take a left off Hwy. 53. As you zoom in, there is a creek that runs under a little bridge. The nest is in the last tree on the left as you cross the creek. I am more convinced than ever that she is not alone, and was one of the eagles I saw but was not able to photograph. Actually, I have photographs, but they are so small that it would be too difficult to identify.
I agree with Amy's recommendation of the Trempealeau Hotel!

Thank you Amy for the update! It's exciting to know she may be closer and more Decorah followers may be able to track her.

Is there a live stream cam on the Eagle Nest in Blair, WI? Never heard of it!
Not only is there a nest, but I actually started a thread in Other Raptors, but was very delinquent in keeping up with it.
I just love the fact that the teacher did this by himself, his own initiative, to help his students.
http://raptorresource.org/forum/index.php/topic,587.0.htmlAlice, thank you for posting the this forum thread link. Larry and Lucy are doing a great job cleaning the snow out of their nest. I remember reading a few posts about the eagles4kids project sometime this past summer. I will make a point of checking on the nest too. This is a wonderful learning experience for these children. This will open their hearts to a lifetime love of raptors. They are very blessed to have a great teacher. Love John Lennon.
Thank you for the Mary Ann puzzle, beautiful horses..one looked like it could have been Cal's. Tied with 56 seconds.
