Alice, love that they are doing a contest. Good to involve everyone with the eagles. Thanks for posting this!

I would personally rather not name wildlife, especially if they are not banded, tagged, or have transmitters on them. Old Mom and Dad is just fine. But, if they did have to have a contest, I would rather it be left to kids and a classroom which "adopts" the nest as the Hancock Wildlife Foundation is fond of doing.

Uploaded by obxbarb1 on Feb 3, 2012

As egg laying gets closer, the eagle pair is starting to prepare the bowl in the nest where the eggs will be laid.

MpMom, I am delighted to see your pics and posts of the Richmond pair. These beautiful eagles are striking as they nestle among the pine cones.

Oh what ear piercing vocalizations.  After Dad brought in the catfish for mom, he let her eat peacefully, watching her but not interfering. Then he went to a branch and watched. Then she finally left and he sat on the branch for some time. Finally he started calling her; but she did not come.  He jumped down the branch to the nest and went for the fish; wham bam in she comes and takes the fish away from him. He again retired to the other side of the nest. After she ate some she took off with it, holding it in her beak, not in her talons as I would have expected.

Mom and Dad were in and out of the nest most of the morning. Actually Dad was, and mom was in the nest literally for hours. I was so sure she was going to lay an egg, after all the mating we have seen on cam. But no luck. After hours in the nest she went to the branch showing off her great "hair" styles and just tempting us.  This after  when a checked things were quiet as usual. And then, just before the infrared cam on back they came; but just for a bit.
Mick, I loved your videos and screen captures.

This cam is really a treat to watch.  We won't miss much because of the videos.  I am on ustream cams as applewooddy.  so say hi.  I could not get golden1 Sad  I don't know how to change a name there and though I have requested it have never heard back from them.  So apple it is.

I hope she lays by the weekend.
